Slowly going through the jobs list on my 986 to get it into tip top condition. One really annoying thing is the front brake pads...they are probably cheapies, and rattle around on their pins. You get a "donk" when applying the brakes for the first time during reversing, another when you apply the brakes for the first time after having come out of reverse and driven forwards, and also a rattle over certain bumpy roads at certain speeds. During normal driving, they are fine.

My Indy looked at them when the car was in a few weeks ago for a minor service, however they left them in place as there is lots of life left in them and they are not dangerous in any way, just clunky! However, looking at ebay prices, this looks like it could be an easy DIY fix for not much outlay.

So my question, which pads would people recommend that come complete with shims, pins etc, and a good snug fit in the calipers, and are reasonably priced? Good everyday road performance, longevity, quality and price are the most important thing, rather than pads that will stand the car on it's nose at 130 but only last 2 weeks.

Car is an '02 986 2.7 manual. Thanks.

Textar - same ones Porsche put in their box. Shims are separate and expensive, but should solve all the issues you mention.
