Estate Car Search - Advice needed regarding diesels.

I wonder if anyone can please help me.
I’ve recently started having trouble with my left (clutch pumping) knee and am trying to find a medium to large estate car with an automatic gearbox. I’ve currently got a manual 1.6 petrol Peugeot 307 SW which is a great car and does everything I need it to. I’d go with an auto version of that however the auto box really eats into the performance and because of that I need to be looking elsewhere.
Most of my journeys are short which suggests I need to stay away from diesels as there could be DPF problems? If I go the petrol route though the fuel consumption gets heavy because I’ll be using a large engine.
Are there any diesels out there that are reliable with auto boxes and that won’t bite me with big bills?
Cars I am thinking about include 308 SW, 407 SW, Passat Estate, Golf Estate, Audi A4 Estate, Skoda Octavia Estate, Mondeo Estate, Volvo V50. My budget is no more than £7500.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I’m getting to hair pulling out point!

I'd be looking at the Mercedes C-Class owing to the auto box reliability.
If you wanted diesel the C220 isn't too bad and pretty reliable alithough the C180k isn't bad on fuel either.
Budget should get an 05-06 estate - avantgarde/sport trim is the best IMO

That's a new shape but high on miles, there are Lowe mileage old shapes around though the earlier ones tended to rust with age
