Having looked through the last couple of threads about Sprint and what it offers members etc etc etc

I am bemused.........Who Wants What...?

I posted earlier that if those who wanted technical talk.....should supply it...!

Simarlily Photos...!

Technical..Advice...!

I don't want to start any prejudice but from what I have seen there are many people who want or expect different things....

Why gripe and moan... Unless TVRCC have feedback and requests, articles, write ups...

AND understand what members want....

HOW CAN tne TVRCC keep its members happy.....?

And as for

IloveEVO911porscheandeverythingthattheysubscribeto.....

I do subscribe...

Its a good read...BUT IMHO thats all it is......

BTW....I've just got back from the pub....

The new guys might be better at listening, but when i proposed to write some techie articles to the previous management team they weren't interested, I also approached some well respected techies in the motor race industry who wanted to write some stuff too .. tvrcc sprint said they were more into polishing, not upsetting the fragile links with the factory, and club runs out to the local pub

many of the technical articles that did appear were badly written, flawed or just plain wrong. They also have to be careful of being sued if any *advice* is used and causes an accident .. ffs!

I vowed never to write another article again ...

I find that if you need help, this is the place to get it. You take it in the spririt that it's given, and away you go. Usually before your cup of tea has been drunk!

I've heard this too.

They like to keep the majority of stuff in-house and safe...

For example, TVRCC track days.... A reasonable sum of money (thousands) needs to be paid down as a deposit for the exclusive right to use a track for a day. There have been occasions in which TVRCC have organised a trackday, stumped up a hefty deposit only for it to be ill-supported and the club making a loss which it doesn't deserve.
Therefor cue a 'TVR Dealer' who said... 'Hello TVRCC how would you like to organise a track-day? WE will pay the deposit for you, we'll organise arrive and drive sprinting and we'll bring over a selection of new models for Joe Public to drive!
To top it all off if the day makes a loss we will cover it but if it makes a profit we will hand 100% of it over to you??

Fantastic a win-win situation!!!

But no, the TVRCC comitte rejected it as they deemed it as a commercial event and they weren't truly in control!!

And that came from a commitee member!

The mag would really benefit from input from people such as Joospeed, Tim Lamont, Mark Adams etc with coverage about products from companied such as Modwise, Leven etc.

The fear of litigation involved with instructional maintenance is totally exholerated by correct wording.

I'm sure practical classics would have been dead years ago otherwise!

This is not a Sprint-bashing excercise - this is the opposite.

Sometimes the "PC" element frustrates the hell out of me, too. I know "PC" isn't strictly correct, but I'm sure you get the idea.

Sprint could at least include ALL the regional roundups. East-Midlands TVRCC has been excluded for the 3rd time running even though the RO does get them to the office on time.

Pull your finger out Sprint!

Absolutely!! One thing can confused the hell out of me is why James Agger's articles stopped appearing in Sprint - his usual slot was normally quite a good read, and covered an area that most of us were involved in (buying and selling our cars, before you ask!!)

The magazine is great if you like pictures, but it would be good to see it encompassing a little more than reviews of track events, test drives and adverts.

Just my view! (still some really nice pictures - did I say that?)

I too was disappointed to read the statement in Sprint earlier this year IIRC saying that the club would not print techie articles - for many, the reason they join a car club is to benefit from the experiences of other members, that includes technical DIY tips. Surely a disclaimer printed inside the magazine saying that technical articles are submitted & written in good faith by the authors would suffice, c'mon, how do the authors of car-mod books and mags get round this problem?

I think though that whilst ever there's excellent forums and motoring newsgroups like PH publications like Sprint will *always* be a very poor, very distant second.

I buy Sprint mainly to support the car club with a bit of funding .. I rarely read anything in it cos it just doesn't interest me .. as a club mag for performance orientated readers it's absolutely pants but they won't print what I want to see (despite as i said earlier actually offering to write it myself) .. so it's unlikely to change.

By contrast I'm on PH about 2 hours a day and love it, love contributing, love reading about other people's modified cars and home grown monsters. PH is much more a performance-car enthusiasts club than the TVRCC effort.

I have vocalised strongly in recent months in areas that this thread is discussing. I am surprised to learn today from JOOSPEED of the situation he discribes. Astonished and dismayed by the response that he recieved from TVRCC Committee member.

Is the TVRCC wishing to remain insular, I cannot see how this policy would benefit members. It reminds me of achaic industry in this country such as BSA, Matchless and car companies which refused to acknowledge the obvious. It seems all very strange to me.

As one who has raised requests to introduce some tech' format into the club, some responses have suggested that I should write them myself. Very odd, if I had tech' knowledge I would'nt be as vocal in requesting it.

I have looked at many car clubs offerings on benifits to members and I'm left wondering why I pay £30 a year apart from the fact that TVRCC is the only club currently for TVR owners and enthusiasts.

Looks like finger meets delete button Corin - where did your 'young blood' post disappear to?

All of the above are very valid points - its the clubs AGM soon, get your questions in & ask for a direct reply.

Nothings perfect, but remember guys there are an awful lot of people who are very happy with the way the club & the magazine are run.

It must be tough trying to make it all things to all people, but that doesnt mean it cant change.

As an author, disclaimers don't solve anything if it came to a court case. The only way to protect yourself is to do the research and write the material responsibly, get it reviewed and have a wopping great and expensive liability insurance policy just in case.

Tis true...I run a timber yard, & despite £££'s spent on health & safety making my saw mill state of the art - if someone walks in off the street, jumps over the barrier, removes the safety guard & lays across the saw bench - Im still liable!

What Im getting at is, no matter how hard you try theres allways some legal eagle out there willing to sue the arse off you - so I guesse thats where the mag was coming from with 'how to do' articles.

Its a shame because I would like to see them - then I cold explain it to the wife so she could fix it for me

This is a tricky problem for the club, perhaps the solution could be:

'This is how I did x to my own car' rather than 'This is how to do x to your car'?

To have my Sprint delivered at the beginning of the month instead of the the 10th, 11th,....would be a good start!

Well to be honest they'd do well to listen to the members… ..who at the end of the day pay the bills.

When I had the S chipped at Austec, I wrote an article and mailed the club to see if they'd be interested in running it. No reply. I tried again. No reply (but got read receipts). So phoned them… to get the response "if you like"…. So mailed Ted, who was happy to run it here on PH…

I then passed constructive criticism a few months later on the typo's in Sprint… only to get a highly aggressive, flaming e-mail from a member of the committee. At the time I was calling in a few favours to try and find a home for the S series alternative parts list, but apparently I was doing nothing for the club

The only reason I bother now, is to make life easier for the RO's and to get tickets for Le Mans...

About 5 year's ago - when Griff's & Chimps were new and all TVR CC advice for these modles was 'Call your Dealer' - I wrote and had published a few techie articles on the Wedges.. mag was edited by Ralph then.

I'd love to see more techie articles - quite frankly I'm bored with many of the same old same old (we took our Tuscan to Swiss land etc..).

It would be great if the moved the 'private' cars for sale to the club web site (cars for sale in the mag are 2 months out of date ..) and lets get more content.

They now seem to have more supply than space but seem to get very picky about what is published.

Sprint how about a change !
