Blimey, This Plasti Dip has come a long way!

So i have been aware of this plasti dip stuff for a while. But wow its come a long way in a short space of time. If you are to believe the guys who do it, you can achieve these same results at home too. Some fantastic colours and effects. Big difference to the matt Black it all started with.

A viable home alternative to a 5k respray. You can keep it on for up to 2 years now apparently. Some of these colours would cost you a arm and leg for a proper respray. You have the bonus of peeling it off when you fancy a change.

The cars I've seen have been poor. There is also stories about the damage it can cause to paint underneath.
As for hat Audi, the colour looks patchy to me. The front left wing looks a few shades out.
If you are trying to show the quality of the finish, why have a soaking wet car?
I can't help but feel it was wet to hide obvious problems.

Looking at their other videos, It looks like they do a good standard of work.
It is never going to be up to factory paint standard (unless they do a BMW orange peel additive) but it doesn't cost anywhere near a full respray.
I like it.
In Florida I think they'd have a good chance to film a car in the dry. Looking at their other videos, It looks like they do a good standard of work.

I'm tempted, to go over the fading/scratched gelcoat on my Libra.
Wonder how much a decent sprayer would charge for a plastidip paint job? I know a mate just had a pretty decent (same colour) respray on his s2000 for 1500 quid. If I could get a job done for 4-500 I'd seriously consider it.

My brother who lives in Canada just did the alloys on his mk6 gti. It looks great! Time will tell regarding durability, but the whole idea is that it can be easily removed. I would imagine most people who do this don't care what it looks like in 5 years because it will probably only be staying on for a year anyway!

It was an entirely light hearted post and not a personal attack or sneaky way to start a German civil war, although if I had that capability I would.
Friend of mine had his Audi A3 plastidipped and to be honest it doesn't look great. Most places will charge circa 400-600 for a medium size car to be dipped.
If you use real plastidip products then it shouldn't damage the original paintwork, problems come when people use cheaper alternatives.
Cheap way for a colour change, but looks cheap IMHO.

I can see the benefit for easy colouring of bits of trims / parts of cars but just can't see it lasting on a full car for any length of time.
Did the chrome bullbar parts on the G500 last weekend and it looks great. Did it in an hour or so, in a car park with zero previous experience and the finish is spot on. Total cost £17 (can of matt black plastidip and some masking tape).
