As above really....

I'm after a compact system camera, or even a bridge camera.

Video is not important, but image quality, ease of use, quick focus, and fast snaps are. Budget is £400 and under.... Suggestions?!

Can't go wrong with a Fuji X-A1 for image quality and budget. It lacks the x-trans sensor of some of the other X range cameras but the sensor in the X-A1 is superb anyway.

You may be able to get an X-E1 in budget though which does has the X-trans sensor.

Fuji's lens range leaves a little to be desired though but may suit your needs perfectly.

Have a look at Micro4/3 too. What it lacks (not a lot) in image quality, it makes up for in a massive range of bodies and lenses.

As above, Fuji are very good but the lenses aren't cheap so might not be ideal for that budget. Olympus OM-D EM5 is good but at the top end of that budget.

If a Samsung NX300 is of any interest I'm currently selling a brand new one for £300 This was a competition prize but I have just invested in a CSC system and as I already have 2 DSLRs and a compact my wife reminded me that 4 cameras is more than enough for anyone.

Thanks for the offer of the Samsung, I'm would be tempted if it wasn't for the smart features.

As for the Fuji X-A1... How does it compare to the Canon Eos M?

I wouldn't rate the Canon. I don't doubt the image quality is good but I've heard nothing good about the camera really and the system is almost non existent. One body, a few pretty basic lenses... Yes, you can get an adapter and fit canon DSLR lenses but surely that defeats the point in buying into a different system?

Canon and Nikon's offerings are pretty half hearted in the compact system market. Nikon at least have class leading AF going for it, but not a lot else.

Olympus E-PL5
Panasonic GF6
Sony A5000
Fuji X-A1

All will do the things you want. Personally I'd go for a Micro Four Thirds camera because of the wide lens selection.
