Best Tapas in central London?

Any recommendations? Taking the Mother, so not uber cool run down Shoreditch chic type stuff, nor over dressy. Just good quality Gastro Pub level...

Brindisa, Fino or Morito are all excellent - much better than gastropub standard.

I'm no foodie but I enjoyed the Salt Yard in Goodge Street when I went a month or so ago. Not massively cheap but not hideously expensive either. Staff were friendly and the service was good.

I definitely go again.

I prefer Barrica to Salt Yard (its next door)

Others not mentioned that are good, Caravan, though its in Farringdon/Kings Cross, Polpo is also very good, one in Cov Garden, one in Farringdon too.

Also went to Iberica the other day, that was also very good.

Yeah Brindisa near London Bridge is very good. Just don't go to La Tasca

Salt Yard is good, just I preferred the other

There are a lot of them in that little area, blame the advertising industry, those ad agency types love a tapas lunch

I like La Tasca. I know it's nowhere near the best, but when you compare it to what's available for the same price, I think it's good value.

They are a chain but I've always had a good time at www.barcelona-tapas.com.

There a few of them around central and they are reasonably priced

To be fair I used to like LT. I think it went massively downhill when it got popular and I probably found proper tapas about the same time.

Must admit I haven't been in one for about 3-4 years. Having grown up visiting my Grandparents in Spain twice a year for 20 years, I do like proper Spanish food (would even go so far to say it's my favourite) but I would always choose a La Tasca over a Pizza Express or Bella Italia for a Friday night/Saturday lunch sort of meal with friends.

Agree. I've always had a decent feed at La Tasca, even though it's far from the best tapas I've eaten.

If Camden is within your sights, try Jamon Jamon on Parkway (about 5 min walk from Camden Town tube). Great food.

Seconded, but not really where I'd take my mum?
You sit high on stools around the bar/counter, so not very comfortable. There are 3 tables outside but good like getting one. The place takes no reservations so queues can be long unless you go at odd hours.

Great for dates though! And the only place in London where I've found Carabineros

Oh yeah, I see them in there all the time. With their Rioja-stained tracksuits, tables strewn with half eaten albondigas, almecas and mejillones.
