Because my son practices on a moorside(with the permission of the owner) we tend to come across these Kebab's on legs a lot. Much as they are curious and can be aggressive to the little ens' they will singly go where you point them. I read this on teletext and my only thought was where was the sense or police were born with? Unless of course curry or Shepherds pie was on the Menu?

I wonder what they tried as a first resort?
Obviously they called atleast one local farmer, but couldn't find one who knew how to move a sheep?
Then they would have presumably sent someone to the library to rent a copy of "sheep herding for dummies".
I would have thought that would have given them the clue about dogs...from there they could realise that they have their own dog units, why not get a dog to bark at the sheep..that works.

There might be other factors of which we are not aware. For example, was there a speed camera nearby that might be compromised should said sheep piss on its electrics.
Or he might have been a sex pest.....

If it was a Lion or a Tiger and was roaming around a busy town centre then it's possible this would have been appropriate, but for a sheep ?
Yes, from my reading of the situation I hardly think it was right to shoot the animal.
It would have been a potentially serious matter if it had been adjacent to a road carrying high speed traffic, but on or near to a roundabout it shouldn't have presented a problem to anybody.

My dad had a sheep/BiB run in some years ago. We had a ewe who was having trouble lambing so my dad phoned up the vets and arranged to take the animal to the surgery (at about 3am!). We didn't have a trailer to transport the animal so my day put it in the back of his old cavalier
. He was waiting outside the surgery for the vet to turn up when plod pulled up and asked him what he was doing. He explained about the sheep and the BiB wanted to have a look in the boot (not a good idea). My dad opened the boot and the sheep lept out and legged it down the high street with my dad in tow. Plod got back in his car and quietly buggered off........

All emotion aside. What is a sheep worth to a farmer?
Is there a chance that they called the farmer and he told them to destroy it cos its not worth the bother of him sorting it out?
I am sure I 'herd' that lambs are worth about £4 at the market, I might not go to too much trouble to protect an investment of that size, if that's the case.
