Radio wiring

Wotcha,

I'm in the process of replacing the stereo and have a couple of wires that I can't identify.

The first is a black wire (that I presume needs to go to earth - but I want to check first)that spurs off the aerial connecor. It's not the main earth feed, as that's a seperate wire. The radio seems to work though, so am very confused...

The second is red/grey - Is this the power switch for the aerial?? Ditto comment above re radio working and being confused....

When I bought a new unit, (Pioneer) it came with an adapter and a list of which wire does what. The adapter from the unit goes to a block which takes the two plug-in blocks that were already there, one with 8 wires for speakers, and one for everything else. By comparing positions, you can identify each wire.

Sadly the previous owner has chopped the standard connectors off, making my life just that little bit harder. Lots of loose wires now, power and speakers are easy to ID, a it's just the remaining two that are more troublesome.

i think the two tone wire is for the aerial amp(yeah right!) try on MW or LW and disconnect it, the signal should get worse. From memory, the aerial also has a seperate earth, not sure why as the plug itself is earth/neg.

Cheers, so just to be sure, it takes the positive feed from the stereo to activate the 'power' aerial?

Yep, from the elec aerial output, usually blue/white. I can tell you the pin connection, just not now as its at the office.
