Any idea why these recorders have gone to Farnborough rather than to Boeing?

Boing are simply the manufacturer; Farnborough houses the Air accident agency (or similar), who will independantly review what occurred.

The Dutch authorities requested that the flight recorders be sent to the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) who are based in Farnborough (about three miles from where I live).

I would suggest that in the whole world, there are only three government agencies that have the capability and resources to properly and thoroughly investigate data from flight recorders -

the NTSB in the US
the BEA in France

and the AAIB here in the UK.

And out of those three only one I would trust not to be diluted by agenda...

I think the NTSB does a very good job.

Not sure about the BEA though.

Whilst I am sure that they do a fantastic and through job I would not be surprised to learn that with two identical incidents their wording (not content) might be influenced by the nationalities in play.

I would expect AAIB to be dry as a bone, clear as a bell and without any flavour to the language used.

Bit like the two Trojan Horse reports we have seen this week. Same conclusion but very different impression left.

Why should the AAIB be as above reproach as the NTSB (not saying they aren't above reproach in any way).

The NTSB wasn't the investigating body in regards to th Air France Concorde crash.

The return of the FDRs to Farnborough seems almost to good to be true after seeing one of the bandits carting it around on the crash site a few days ago. I can't imagine they would return it willingly (smoking gun) - Putin insistence perhaps?

Or perhaps they will find the data altered/missing... which is not going to help ease international tensions.
