What Car?

My friend is looking to purchase a new car soon and cannot make up his mind as to what he wants.

He doesn't have many requirements:

Budget of £3k.
Fast.
Insurable. (he's early twenties, 4 year NCB)
Convertible preferred but not mandatory.

Practicality and fuel economy have very little relevance.

Any ideas?

How about a 3.0 Z3 with a little haggle?

It seems to fit the criteria perfect. a 2.8 can be had for a little less and a little bit more will get him in a Z4 2.2/2.5

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Hadn't thought of the Z3/Z4 route so will suggest these.

I've suggested so many cars which have so far been dismissed I wanted to see what everyone else thought. I won't list every car I've suggested but two contenders currently are either a BMW E46 or Audi TT.
