SL500 R129 drivers door window/soft top problems

Hi All,
Hope I can get some help/advice.
Had the car nearly 12 months now 6K miles been a dream until this week.
This appears to be a problem with the auto window drop when opening and shutting door that then has a knock on affect to soft top operation.
Closed door yesterday roof up and as the window popped back up the mechanism within the door made a cracking noise. Opened door again and the window would'nt drop to clear seal, also the power window switch would operate in single up/down down mode but not single touch drop. Able to reset by holding button down for 10secs after window closes.
Soft top operated without fault down, but got stuck half way coming back up. Window seems to work with door opening ok for 3 or 4 times after reset, then crack, and problem again. I know from other threads that the roof ECU/module reads the numbers of turns the window motor makes in order to sync operation so hopefully its a window regulator issue??.
By the way the drivers window has always operated about 2 inches behind the passenger window in travel when you continue to operate the roof switch.
Had to carefully drop down rear deck and push rear window section down and it will lock down using roof switch.
I have had door card off and as far as you can get to it under the plastic checked nuts/rivets, nothing loose or broken and lubricated moving parts to no avail!
