Radio in police cars

Do the police use hands free kit in their patrol cars, or is it a case of "Do as we say, not as we do"

All ours are press to talk, (ptt) hands free but with a knob to prod to transmit.(Radio)

All telephony is hands free.

Our handheld Tetra radios can also be used as mobile telephones, hence they are covered by the legislation, so can't be used while driving, even if in radio mode.

A radio without this feature, ie just a radio, can be used.

Our vehicle sets all have "hands free" PTT devices and microphones/speakers near the driver.

For the BiB it must be a lot easier to commentate on a pursuit (in a 1 man vehicle) with hands free. Hooning round a roundabout changing gear talking on the radio and trying not to kill bystanders as well as making decisions regarding the pursuit can't be easy at the best of times!

Aye...handsfree has to be the way.....

It sets an example and more importantly if it all goes wrong and you have a collision, the powers that be can find out exactly what radio system you were using and how..so will prosecute you for it...(Regardless of the fact that it might be necessary in order for you to react properly to the emergency that you're attending)

Still....everyone knows better than us..
