Porsche Boxster S 987 gen 1 helppppppp

Hi guys I hope your all well,

I am thinking about getting a 987 gen 1 boxster s which I can buy for around £10k-12k which I find very very cheap for such a prestige car......I am looking at a 05 or 06 plate......

what would be the main issue with this car as it would be 8-9 years old.....any reliability, maintenance issues?

How much would a service be and is it a economical car, I would probably drive it a couple times a week as my second car.

The IMS bearing on that model is a slight risk, other than that it is a fantastic car, one of the most reliable cars on the planet.
As long it has been well maintained in the past it will not be more expensive to own than a BMW or an Audi.

If the IMS bearing is upgraded there is not really any issues with that model at all.

Check service history and get a PPI, and then enjoy. In my opinion one of the greatest road cars there is for sensible money.

As above, IMS is the only slight risk.

I find that servicing is quite cheap from the OPC network if you are a member of the PCGB for about £50 a year. I don't think it will be long before they offer the cheaper servicing to everyone in the same way they have to 986/996 owners.

There are plenty of good independents as well.

I have had an 05 987S for 4 years now and I still can't believe how much car you get for the money. I might get £12k for mine at a push, but the equivalent new 981S is £60k and for that difference the 987S is a keeper.

I reckon the depreciation won't be much more than £1k each year now, if I bought the 981S it would probably be more like £8k.

Although not as prone to bore scoring as the larger capacity engines, I personally would not purchase an M96/97 engine without having it boroscoped first.

Use a Porsche specialist. RMS is not a deal breaker.

Ran my 987 S 2006 (06) without any issues for nearly 3 years. Amazing car absolutely brilliant, recommend you should buy one.

I even used to drive mine in the snow with Autosocks on.

Miss it sometimes...although the F430 I replaced it with helps!

You don't need to be a PCGB member to get their lower "menu" pricing on minor and major services. Without extra work (eg: brakes) they are now competitive against indys - plus you often get to borrow brand new cars while they work in yours.
