Is anyone planing on doing any mods over winter?

I shall be fitting 2 extra fans in the engine bay to try and get some airflow on hot days.

I am also going to fit some sort of sump guard as the sump is the lowest point on mine (I don't have the dropped floor)

Sounds like cooling mods are definitely the in thing... I'm finally going to get round to putting a fresh air pipe in (only had the bits for 3 months ).

Also going to sort out the fuel & spark to make the car a bit more user friendly. The nice strong dollar means I'll be putting together an order for EFI bits from Summit soon. Still figuring out if distributerless igntion is the way to go right now (Ford EDIS) or whether to stick with a computer controlled MSD-6AL and ye olde dizzy for now.

Hope to fix some wiring issues by putting in some big high power relays on the ignition circuits (as discussed here previously). If I feel flush I'll fit a solid state safety cut-off and a nice jump start/boost Anderson connector. Ditto a full electrical plumbed in fire extinguisher.

In the unlikely even I've got any money or time left there's always the big wing, splitter and wheel vents left to add...

New front shocks, stiffer springs alround, modified lower front wishbones, reprofiled front wheel arches and some way of getting more cold air into the cockpit

New cam and a few other refreshes at the factory. Also considering a paint job.

Tyres that keep air in would be nice.

Gary,
with regard to the engine bay airflow, have you thought of the Reveria side scoops?

The current grills on the side of the car are not really in the airflow, the Reverie scoops extend out around 50mm into the airflow and flood the engine bay with air.

I've also got the cold airbox on my Canam and it runs very cool indeed in the summer, even on hot track days.

Alan.

1. Replacing GM block with new Dart block on my 383 (old 4-bolt block could not cope with increased engine power and cracked)
2. Replacing and re-locating oil cooler, with cold air feed from top scoop (want to re-model top scoop similar to new Maserati MC12), plus 80deg. oil thermostat to keep oil temps. stable
3. Lot of small items, like: teflon throttle cable, carbon dist. gear, interior light, video camera holder, new clutch, replacing front bushes (own design, delrin with greasing), changed fixing of exhaust pipes and new design of rear mesh, new carbon front splitter,...

BTW, we have just taken out the engine. My mechanic is building his own Ultima GTR in the same workshop and is preparing the engine - a 4,2 litre Audi (from a S8). Interesting to compare both engines side by side. The Audi engine is much shorter but also a lot wider. Will not be easy to fit into the chassis. It is also lighter (most parts are aluminium), but with all accessories the difference is "only" 30 kilo, as actually measured. Given that my Small Block is rated at 550 HP and the Audi at around 400 HP (with improved electronics), will be interesting to compare car performance...

I simply removed the access panels for the fuse box and wiring and replaced them with a fine mesh to catch all the crap, the car was significantly cooler inside. Then it blew up, DOh!!!

Is it more than one tyre leaking Steve?

It's not something like a flaw in the wheel casting is it?
I have'nt heard of others having the same problem.

Alan,
I don't have a problem with heat while moving. It's only while stuck in traffic (and theres lots of that in the summer)
I only need some sort of air flow while stationery and I don't think the Reverie set up will provide that, but thanks anyway!

It may be something to do with having earlier type rims. Anyway they leak from anywhere around the rim to tyre joint inside or out.
Tyre pressure goes down and you don't notice because they still look OK with only 5psi due to the low profile. By the time you notice, the tyre wall is shot.
I now have a rear tyre shortly to become a coffee table.
Lost a front one on the M25 earlier in the year, the rubber burning smell gave the game away. Didn't feel a thing in the steering at 80 but felt the wobble as I came down through 40. When I checked the whole of the inner tyre wall was gone.

I can't understand that with an 04 car you have early rims. My car was compilted in 2002 - has done 13,000 miles and the rims don't leak. Have you replaced the rubber gaket and used a bit of silicon to help?

I wouldn't use a Dart alloy block on a center shift car unless you want to re route the shift linkage or cantact Canton to get them to make a custom pan for the motor.

Rodeck makes an alloy small block that use a standard chevrolet pan and not have this problem.
