Mini IPod or 1Gb MP3 player to run with…?
Discussion
Been out shopping today looking at initially an MP3 player. Having not really seen any that I fancy, and neither Comet’s, Dixon’s or PC World had any MP3 players I could listen to with ear phones (even though they agreed they wouldn’t sell a TV without being able to see the picture quality..!) The mini Ipod’s are getting pretty close on the price.
As all the shop staff were busy, or ‘weren’t an expert, I’ll find someone who is, 10 mins later still standing there..!’, my question is, can I run with a mini Ipod, or will it skip…? In the past I’ve had several CD’s and mini disc with various skip protection, but when running, they were all pretty terrible.
So can I run with an Ipod, or is MP3, really the only way to go…?

the Mini iPod is a HDD based MP3 player, what it does is load up about 4 to 5 songs into it's cache and plays them, at the start of the 4th it wipes the first 3 and loads the next ones during you listening to the song. Technically you shouldn't experience lag/delays of any kind, and ultimately thats what the Mini was designed for, but to be truly safe I'd aim with for a pure Solid state device - no hardware to fail. That and of course you'll struggle to find a Mini until well after Chrimbo for any reasonable price now.
I have a 3G 15G and while as it's good, it's not all it's cracked up to be and it keeps breaking - and I'm very careful with it.
