Went to watch him climb the Alpes Duez during the Tour de France last year, he had so much time for everyone, other riders stayed on the tour bus or hiden behind their trainers.

Amazing man.

Yep for sure.

I get back from a 2hr ride fit to collapse, that would be his warm up!

Truly amazing sportsman.

Good book too, although made me feel rather lazy

Agreed - amazing guy.

The only thing I would add is that I got a real shock seeing picture of him out on the town with Sandra Bullock after having read the first book and heard him profess undying love & devotion to his wife.

Don't know why, but I was a little bit disappointed...

Don't you mean Sheryl Crow?

Yes, I had thought that too, especially with his son.

Agreed, it is an awesome book!! Very moving...

He is an inspiration. What he went through and fought against was truly amazing.

I really enjoyed the sequel to this book too. It's made me appreciate cycling more and now I understand the what goes on in the team/tactics world of the Tour de France!

It really annoys me when people still believe he must be taking drugs, or that because he only concentrates on the T de F he can't be compared to other great cyclists

Michael Schumacher is hailed as some unbelievable superhero for winning seven world F1 championships and has his head up his own arse. Lance Armstrong survived a 5% survival-rate cancer, has won six Tour de France and countless other races and is one of the nicest, most self-depricating men in the sporting world, and yet it is Schumacher who gets all the media attention. It's just a sad state of affairs, that's all.

20 mph uphill on training runs in the Hollywood hills apparently. I struggle to do that on the flat!

In response to the original topic - The man is a hero, nothing less.

Astonishing what the guy has achieved

In response to V8Thunder - To be honest, I think your comments re Schumacher are unfair. I don't think Schumacher gets a fraction of the media attention that Beckham gets, and even then Beckham openly courts the media.

Personally, I think it's pretty lame to post an (unfounded) comparison between Mr Armstrong and a perceived "lesser" sportsman.

FFS. Do you really think that someone who has had their insides chemically torched through chemo is then going to think, "I know, as I'm so lucky to be alive, let's risk fing my body up with chemicals?"

I think you'll find it has more to do with incredible motivation, incredible preparation and a unique technique that no-one else has yet to successfully master and apply themselves.

Are you after attention or something. Tht is the second 'clever' comment on this thread alone.

Read the book have you, know for a fact do you. If not. Quit it.
