Had a policy with Axa, cancelled it this week and asked for paperwork confirming my 12 years no claims. It came through today saying I had 1 claim in the duration of the policy which was no-fault and a value of zero. It turns out this is for a repair on a windscreen.

To see this marked down as a claim is surprising, is this standard practice now? I suppose theoretically I have to declare for the next x years that I've had a claim and suffer the potential increased premiums as a result? Does it also mean that the windscreen replacements/repairs I've had over the years meant I was inadvertantly putting down zero claims when it should have been at least one?

I thought the point in getting the insurance company to repair it was to prevent a claim for a full screen in the near future? If I had know it would end up on my record anyway I wouldn't have bothered and just waited until it cracked to get a nice new clear screen.

Is this standard practice now for insurance companies? I understood some froze your NCD but to declare a repair as a claim seems to be somewhat taking the proverbial.

Esure recorded it on mine at renewal, made no difference to the cost of the policy.

Nothing Axa do is standard practice. They are complete lunatics and a law unto themselves, i.m.h.o.

When I was with Elephant, they didn't mark a windscreen as a claim but the windscreen wasn't replaced, just repaired so whether that makes a difference?

Yep just had renewal through from Admiral and my £20 stone chip repair is down as a claim. I wouldn't class that as a claim.....

And I will not be declaring it either on all the comparison sites.

On mine it was stated, but not counted.

Just because it's no fault doesn't mean it isn't a claim.

They paid for the repair. You didn't. Therefore you made a claim on your policy.

Simples.

This is my issue, I just tried and declaring it is making hundreds of pounds difference with some insurers....all for something that cost axa nothing and possibly saved them a bigger claim later. stty practice IMO and I won't be darkening their door again.

You're covered for damage. Damage = loss, for which you are (or were) indemnified by the insco/underwriter.

If the nominated repairer is giving the insco an average invoice deal (which prolly explains them banging out frequent adverts underlining the urgency to have chips repaired) whatever that 'value' is, is the claim amount.

Ergo, claim.

So...I'm with AXA and I'm about to have my third windscreen replaced this year since January, simply due to bad luck and various things being thrown up at the screen by trucks. I was aware that the windscreen claim would stop my no claims for the year being increased, but not being loaded on my premium as a claim. I shall have to investigate.

Why all the fuss about Axa in particular? ALL insurers record windscreen (or other glass) claims.

Nothing new here.

And you DO have to tell future insurers about it whether you think it's right or wrong.

You'd better be careful, I think they will be reducing your no claims - I was aware it was "frozen" for the first screen, but they reduce it for subsequent ones.

None of my previous 3 insurers regard a glass replacement/repair as a claim.

So no ALL insurers do not regard it as a claim. Only a few do in fact.

They'll have it on their records though. In the "claims" section.

But most choose not to count it as a claim.

Are we confusing the word, claim?

Here's a fun one.... Someone damages your car. You call the insurer to enquire about making a claim but decide not to pursue it.

When it cones to renewal you are hit for another £150 because apparently you made a claim. You argue that you didn't, but they say that you did and that the claim amount happened to be £0.

Utter b@ll@cks and the b@stards refuse to remove the claim entry from the insurance database because they say they can't.

Cheers Ageas for rewarding me for electing not to become a burden on the insurance world.

I think that some people are confusing "claim" with "claim resulting in loss of NCD".
