Where to get a good AFM?

I need to replace my AFM for my 450 Chim but have read reports of bad pattern Chinese parts not being very good.

What have people bought and recommend?

£168 from Clevor Trevor but seems to be pattern part

Power want £250 but looks to be genuine Lucas that has been reconditioned

This one appears to be genuine Land Rover. Has anybody used these people? The Brtipart AFM'S are about £100 so don't want to pay twice that for this one if it turns out to not be genuine just with a LR sticker on it.

Hi Karl, I've used lrdirect before for my Landrover bits (brake components mainly) and they are reputable and reliable. They know what they're talking about too. As to whether this part is compatible with your 450, I'm afraid I can't help you.

I think from a Range Rover they are OK as the engine bay runs cooler. From another TVR, I guess it's just a lottery.

I would be cautious about buying a LR spec part as the plug may not be the same. None of the MAF sensors are 'original' Lucas except maybe the reconditioned ones that Powers sell. If it was me I would get the Clev Trev part as they will definitely fit your TVR, albeit a pattern part, but short of using a second-hand one you have no choice.

Is there no one local to you who would let you try their working MAF sensor just to confirm yours is goosed??

You are quite safe either the Lucas 3AM (Hitachi based electronics- but old) or the Lucas 5AM (Lucas electronics) are plug compatible in the TVR as used on a large number of Range Rovers and LandRovers. Nowt special about "TVR " bits. I dont know how well the patten ones will hold up under the high temps in the TVR bay, they certainly wont have been designed to run this hot.

Good call.

Price is £150 + VAT but at least you know it should be of sound quality.

I'm currently looking at a secondhand one froma Range Rover so it should have had an easy life or might just go for the new one above from LR Direct at £179 + VAT

I have a good working MAF from a 400 if it’s any use? I’m in Basingstoke and open to an offer on it. I also have a distributor and a stepper motor that were removed when I had a brilliant Canems system fitted by Lloyds Specialist developments last summer.
