Giant Defy Composite 3

Can anyone comment on these road bikes? looking at purchasing a 2014 Giant Defy Composite compact 3.
It looks like a good bike for a newbie road rider. I have basically made my decision on this bike but would like some feedback.
I have also looked at trek and specialized from the same price range and there spec are all very similar as far as my untrained eye can see with the 3 bikes.

I have a 2014 Defy Composite 2 - so the same thing as you're considering but with 105 over Tiagra.
It's a nice bike, I've had it since the beginning of May and clocked up just under 600 miles so far. It's all day comfy and I've not been disappointed by it's performance, though I am very new to road cycling.
The 2 actually has a Tiagra cassette which is 12-30 and combined with the compact chainset it really does give you a very, very low granny gear which can be no bad thing. Though I'll likely change to either 11-28 or 11-25 before long as I do tend to spin out on the descents.
Originally I was set on a Trek Madone 3.1, but I wasn't getting the best service from the bike shop I was looking at in so I took my business elsewhere and found the Giant £100 cheaper for an equivalent spec.
I do suspect that at this level, not bargain basement bikes but not really expensive stuff either, the difference between similarly equipped big brand bikes will be negligible.
If I was buying again I would consider the Giant, but I would also look long and hard at alternatives from Ribble and Planet X which do offer superb value.
