Why on earth are they changing the format of PH again? The new (daft) menu system was only just added, now they want to change the front page to emphasize sales items.

Leave our PH alone. Light your torches, grab them there pitchforks.

Who's with me?

Oooh, lemme think. I _wonder_ why they're changing it to emphasise the bit that EARNS THEM MONEY?

It's not "your" PH. It's Haymarket's PH. They're the ones who paid an undoubtedly rather healthy amount of money to buy it, and who pay the salaries of the various people who are employed to write the articles and keep the servers running.

You? You're part of the product.

No wonder they're changing the menu layout to promote sales, the classified section used to be great but its a load of crap now.

I hate the new format - and its baby-blue font colour.

Presumably the increase in size of the various elements is to suit kiddy-phones?

Why don't they just STOP MEDDLING! It was fine the way it was.

They need to rewrite the code behind the homepage - it uses an obsolete technology which doesn't receive security updates from Microsoft any more ( so called Classic ASP).

It makes sense to also enhance the homepage so it works properly on mobile and tablet devices as these make up a large proportion of the devices used nowadays.

These are the same reasons given for changing the classifieds - unfortunately in that case I'm not convinced they planned it too well as there are still some usability issues with them in my opinion.

Call me daring, but I don't think fatbutt thinks it's our PH. In fact, I'd risk a little bet he was jesting...

I'd like to go back too - it seems that when I now open the home page, all I see is the PH logo, the menu bar and a dirty great Bank loan advert.

The beta home page is awful (I have submitted feedback). Everything is too big, and there aren't enough stories on the visible area.

The home page isn't broken, it should be left alone and budget should be put in the mobile version of the site.

New beta home page seems to have same number of ads as the current one, not more. Personally, I think the new page is a definite step in the right direction - the old one had far too much on and was a bit of a jumbled mess.

I think it will be just one site in the future that serves up content based on your device type?

I rarely use the homepage - link direct to the forums but, having had a quick look at the new layout, I really like it.

So, the much hyped new home page is in beta stage. The techies have been explaining all the work that has gone into this new home page for months, I was expecting big things.

And that's what we got, bigger pictures... Oh, and they deleted the menu bar from the left hand side...

Seriously?

That would be nice, as the mobile site has issues with loading the home page, then suddenly altering the position of the buttons.

At the moment the new home page (on a PC) looks like I'm looking at the web page on a phone.

"Popular Tags" should not be hidden, those buttons need to be there 100% of the time in order to navigate.

Times are a changing... but we can't stand still, so things will change.

Unfortunately the browsing habits of people using the site have changed and we need to modify pages to accept that, so bigger fat finger items on pages for the finger generation is one way to move forward - the classic mouse movers are dropping to under half the audience and thus the old ways are now the minority.

Like it or loathe it feel free to say here - and we will do our best to satisfy those we can (but we will not satisfy all as that is impossible, so some will not like it).

We are currently in two weeks of feedback and will develop that feedback into the next release before pushing it permanently, so this is your chance to influence that - fire away thumbup

Looks a bit cleaner to me. I guess the header menu was redesigned with this in mind. Speaking of which, in Safari 8 at least the drop down menu awkwardly doesn't align with the right side of the page wrapper.
