Over the past few days my 4.2 has started to have a bit of an erratic idle, seems to bounce around a bit also MPG seems to have fallen a bit and also have a bit of 'bunny hopping' when pulling away and also seems to pop and bang at lower revs. Any ideas, I have the ECU program and can have a look at the sensors and data, anything in particular I should concentrate on ?

I've had very similar problems the past few days and I've just put it down to the cold weather. She runs fine when travelling it's just on idle / traffic crawling when the smoothness disapears.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I've got an idling problem to. Sometimes it's ok and other times it (4.5) just wants to stall - and I can't predict when it's going to do either but if pushed I'd say it was slightly better when cold! I've search the previous 'stalling threads' but didn't find a definitive answer (maybe there isn't one?). At the moment I'm having to hit the brake and the accelerator at the same time as I put the clutch down. Absolutely fine otherwise.

me too! It seems to be an intermittent problem that crops up every now and then, then go's away. Mine hadn't done this for a month or so then bugger me started doing it today! I'd love to know what the hell causes it.

After I had my engine out recently, mine came back with the same problem. Turned out to be a loose nut, where the throttle arm came to rest against the idle stop. hope yours is as easy to fix
