Falken tyres

Upon the recomendation of a previous thread I have just bought 4 x Falken FK451 to replace my bald Bridgestone S02 & S03. I've only done 20 miles and I'm impressed already. All tramlining has stopped and it seems to give a better feel to the car. I put my foot down in third and no spinning (damp road), which I would have had on the Bridgestones. I know they are a medium budget tyre and it was a risk buying them but so far I don't regret it.

Now have Falkens all round - I prefer them to the previous Bridgestones.

What sizes and ratings are you using, and what was the cost per tyre?

front 225/45/16ZR........£95 inc fitting /vat/ etc.
rear 245/45/16ZR.........£98 inc fitting /vat/ etc.
I had it done at ATS where they even fill your tyres with Nitrogen instead of air......for £1.50 per tyre. Suppose to increase road holding/handling and increase tyre life by 25%. We'll see.

It stops the pressures varying with temperature (normally it's the water vapour in the air that expands as it gets hotter).

How do you keep them pumped up? Every time I go to my local petrol station the nitrogen tank is out of order.

Falcon tyres are the budget brand of Dunlop, and are made in india,(like curry) they have the industry standard ISO rating and by the whole are very good value for money..

in a recent product test by auto express, they did well in the dry, and not at all bad in the wet. (geez just realised i'm an anorak)

Latest.......Just been to Stoke and back tonight in the wet and.......OH MY GOD!
What a set of tyres. Pulling out of roundabouts foot to the floor in second, no wheelspin. I can actually go around corners in the wet now - at speed.
The handling is amazing and I now have full driving pleasure in the wet. Thanks to Falken.

Would be interested to see if the same tyre in a larger size ie 235x35x18 and 255x35x18 performed equally as well.

I discovered Falken FK451 tyres a few years ago when they were recommended to me by someone I know who races porches.
I have since fitted these to several cars (BMW M3 , Rover 220 turbo , Mitsubishi FTO) & they transformed the handling of every car. One word of warning don't be persuaded to go for a different type of Falken as I tried the more updated versions & they were nowhere near as good.
As soon as my Chim needs tyres thats what i'll be getting.

Foot to the floor, in 2nd, in the wet, out of a roundabout with no wheelspin? I think you're missing a few hundred horsepower!!!

Honestly - that's how good these tyres are. I've just had her tuned and serviced and she is running better than ever so there is definately nothing wrong with the car.

These tyres seem to suit the 16inch original wheel for the 4.2 and I'd be interested to see how they fare on the bigger 17 and 18inch wheels.

An excellent tyre for the price although I only paid £75 and £80 respectively front and rear .

Hi All,
I'm going at the weekend to look for new rear tyres. What pressure's are you putting in them. I also have SO3's all round and have to dry like a granny even if someone has spat in the road.

I run 26psi all round on my car which seems to be a what most people recommend .

You will love the Falken's after the S03's!

S03's are bloody awful in my experience .

Try Sparks tyres on Hayden Road in South Wimbledon - they've done loads of tyres for me over the years. I've got Toyo Proxes on my Cerb and think they're pretty good. Should be about £110 per corner (that's for 17"s)

I run mine at 24/26psi front/rear

I'll stick to my bridgestones, theres a BIG technical reason why they're up there with the best and F1's suppliers... and security and peace of mind at high temperatures is just one of them...
and like danny said, you're definitely missing a few hundred horses there - unless you've got hot'n'sticky slicks on, in the dry, theres NO tyre that will keep traction in a front-engined rear-wheel driven cerb when throttles down to the floor...

But saying that, I did have Falkens on my old rover, and she felt like a new car... buts that where it ends!...

I thought TVR were gone backwards enough, by throwing a set of Toyo's on as standard, can you imagine a Ferrari with Toyo's or Falkens???? I think not... so why should TVR have anything less???...

Unless Michelins have changed compound in the last few years they certainly wouldn't be my wet tyre choice.
