What mid engined "exotica"(?) did I see?

Couple of weeks ago in Edinburgh I passed an oncoming car in classic mid engine wedge sportscar style (Rossion, Farboud etc)but I can't figure out what it was.
Front end looked very like a Lotus Evora, but the sides were clean and slab sided (no sculpting or intakes) and there were small intakes mounted just aft of the C pillars, set horizontally, facing upwards. Rear end looked relatively short and squared off, and can't remember much of a rear wing. I seemed to be a bit smaller than the Evora too - it was on foreign plates, possibly Italian.
It did look vaguely familiar from something I might have seen on the net or in a magazine at some point, but searching the usual suspects has not come up with anything.
Anyone any thoughts?

Definitely not an AC 
Artega too curvy - this had much sharper lines.
Does look very like a G60 from the front, but not quite as curvy and I am sure it didn't have the big door scoop/cutouts - the small inset bonnet style intakes at the C pillars were very distinctive, and not like the Artega's or indeed Evora's. (in fact it looked like an odd place for that type of vent)

you might miss the scoops if seen from the front, air intakes more noticable from the front too.

Definitely not an Evora as I was driving mine at the same time - I thought it was the Lotus initially, as, presumably, did the oncoming car who started excitedly waving at me.
Very strange - maybe it was some kind of kit car - if it was, it certainly looked good.
EDIT: not Pagani or Arash either sadly.
