I was shopping in Waitrose yesterday and I spotted a young worker, wearing a bright orange rubber strapped Ploprof.... I have now sent in my CV to waitrose as I am obviously in the wrong job!

Joking aside.... Being a diver, the ploppy is a watch that I covet and seeing it adorning the wrist of a spotty oik who must have been around half my age wearing one leads me to despair.

Jealous? me? Naaaa.....

Well, okay, maybe a little.... tongue out

It could well have been Michael, however, from my cursory glances (I didn't want to be THAT scary guy, staring at teenagers for a prolonged period) I suspect it was the real deal

I can't see any Ploprof fakes following that link.

More likely, some rich kid working through his University break or one of the 'homages' (Ocean 7? Helson?).

Well I don't really know... but, the strap and clasp looked very good quality. However, knowing how good some of the fakes are that are out there Michael could well be right.

But.....

If you were going to buy a fake, a bright orange ploppy seems an odd choice....

Unless he thought people wouldn't think such an unusual watch would be a fake...

But, those who know what it is would automatically think "must be fake" and people who don't know what it is will think "Gawd, what an ugly watch!"

I see no win there?

It might be real.

Just because he works in waitrose doesn't mean he's not wealthy or more likely, from a wealthy family. 18th birthday present? Inheritance from granny?

I wore a rolly when I worked at the great dairy rest cream factory... would have worn it stacking cages at the Argos RDC but we weren't allowed to wear watches.

How did you know it was brand new?
I mean the new "style" ploprof on an orange rubber strap, as opposed the original vintage beauty

Ah, I see...

My 1200M is about 5 years old now, I have bonded with it from day one, it came on black rubber and later changed to Mesh.

When I bought it the salesperson called it a 'replica'.eek

"Yes indeed, this is a fine piece of diving engineering, a Replica of the Omega PloProf."

Could've been a Helson Sharkmaster 600, or an Ocean 7 LM-7 smile

That's what I was thinking. Lovely bit of homaging there!

The Helson is flipping awesome!

Unbelievable, how can someone we all look down on have nice things? Guess he's got money in the real world, rather than on the internet.

I got a Planet Ocean as a 21st present, same watch today would be similar value to the Ploprof I think, could well be 21 and working in Waitrose on a gap year or something?
