Driving over there is a lot different to driving in the UK.

Everyone just pootles along, much bigger roads, you can undertake on the freeway, hardly any speed cameras, I didn't see one bit of road rage in the 2,000 miles of driving in California.

The 55MPH limit is daft most of the time but no-one seems bothered by it, they either stick to it or not, just the same as over here.

Back to the UK - there are instances where limits do get raised, recently in Bristol the A4174 Hartcliffe way down to Parsons street got raised to 40MPH from a 30MPH.

Finally to answer your question, not every limit is too low, some are.

I can think of many 30mph urban roads where 30mph is too fast, and NSL country lanes where 60mph is too fast. But lowering the speed limit won't stop people driving too fast anyway.

Most of the speed limits here are too low now. There are 30 limits were they don't belong, I can think of once such limit were the speed of the traffic is about 50 and it's up hill! I can think of another were there is enough line of sight for a comfortable 90.
