Head light motor plug wiring
Discussion
Good morning guys from Ohio
I'm working through the headlight and headlight motor issues you've heard about before and I need some additional info if someone can help;
Do any of you know what the three wires are in the motor plug starting from the tappered end in position one two and three? colors and source maybe?
I have one pod that comes up when you turn on the lights and won't go down when you shut them off and the other pod has to be manually raised and goes down after you turn the lights on and then back off!
All the lights work correctly.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, but it's a bit confusing as the colours change from one side of the connector to the other and on some versions, from left to right of the car!
There's a diagram of the pod motor circuit here...

Essentially the 3-pin connector carries the motor + and - feed and the common of the Park switch; the two flying leads are the two 'outputs' of the Park switch.

By "park" do you mean headlight pods closed or stopped in either the up or down position? And "flying leads" meaning separate wires not in the 3 wire connector?
You have to remember your dealing with a stupid American that isn't good at wiring at all!
Thanks
Charlie
Yes, the Park switch stops the motor in either up or down position - or more accurately, it signals back to the control relays to stop the motor. And yes, the flying leads are those not in the 3-way connector. You have to remember your dealing with a stupid American that isn't good at wiring at all!
Thanks

There are plenty of stupid Brits too, regardless of whether they know anything about wiring

Yeah, I think many of us will have seen some real wiring nightmares in our various classic cars over the years, I certainly have !! And, no, I'm not talking about corroded connectors, but home "upgrades".
But TVR deserve at least a razzie for their "all black" wedge wiring and the placement of some of the connectors so that they catch all the road spray and crap....(as in mine).
All black makes fault finding a LOT harder !
Motors - On my motors on inspection, you can see that two wires go into the motor body, and 3 go into the side 'box', which is where the 'up' and 'down' switches are, (= 1 common pole, 1 UP, 1 DOWN) giving 5 wires in total.
I guess that one could save a wire by having a common earth to motor and switch pole, don't know if later ones may be done that way, but mine have 5 wires to the connector block.
