The wife's Mazda 5 2.0 Diesel Sport on an 08 plate is due its 6year/75K service. Unfortunately Mazda tell me that means its timing belt time too :-(

Its got a full Mazda service so far, but after getting conflicting advice from the two local dealers I am not so sure.

Mazda Newport have quoted;
Full Service including Fuel/Oil/Air/Pollen Filters Brake Fluid change - £363
Timing Belt £410 plus the Service Manager told me a possible additional £218 for a Hydraulic Tensioner, which needs doing 70% of the time.

Mazda Cardiff have quoted;
Full Service including Fuel/Oil/Air/Pollen Filters Brake Fluid change - £599.70
Timing Belt £363, and the service manager told me the Hydraulic Tensioner NEVER needs changing.

I've got every intention of getting the service and cam belt done, but quite frankly I am not sure who to believe on this Tensioner.

So My questions to you guys are;

Is it worth carrying on with Main Dealer Servicing, or can a local garage do the same job?

Whats the deal with the tensioner, does it need changing or not?

I have a 55 reg Mazda 5 deisel (64k miles). I use Japfix based in Pontyclun. Much cheaper than your main dealers. I had cambelt done for about £440.

£600 for a service on a Mazda plus ANOTHER £400 for a timing belt?!

Find a good independent.
