Selling a 996 - will it be a world of hurt?
Discussion
So in about 3 weeks time I'll be selling my lovely 996 cab.
It's coming away for a short Euro trip which should be a fun way to end my time with it before being practical and buying a new place.
I have always sold my cars privately but got real worries about the private selling experience with a 911. Am I going to get a stream buyers consisting entirely of wanna-be-jet-pilots and weirdos?
The alternative is to go "Sale or Return" for which I've seen quotes of 1-1.5k commission (which is likely to be almost 10% of the total cost!).
Anyone had any experience of the SOR process and if so did you feel it was worth it?
Guess the other thing is whether anyone knows of any other indies that are currently buying cars - suggestions welcome!

Good question - don't know as haven't advertised it yet. Hoping that the huge history and Hartech rebuild will give it some saleability.
Spec wise it is 2001 (clear lenses) Lapis blue 3.4 C4 tip (the least PH 911 I guess
) with cream leather pack/heated seats/PSM and BBS Sports Classic II wheels. On 95k and serviced/MOTd about 6 weeks ago.
I've got an alert on AT when any similar age/spec cars come up for sale, if I take out the outliers then guessing somewhere nudging £11k? Hard to tell as they vary so much!

Mmm - I think that the indies will not be that interested in it - too old and too many miles for them.
My own experience in trying to sell my 968 has been, well... trying!
Quite a few tyre-kickers via emails etc with lots of questions but tough to get buyers in front of the car.
Good luck with the sale

Best of luck.
To my mind the issue is the cab. If I wanted a cab I would buy a Boxster. But there are no doubt plenty of people out there whose dream is a 911 cabrio. And I have to admit, for reasons that I do not yet understand, the most exciting 911 i have ever driven was a 996 Gen 1 3.4 cabrio whose engine and exhaust had been fettled by the Archangel Gabriel. I had to be forcibly extracted from it.

Thanks Pierlofi - not sure if it adds much to the resale value but should make it more sellable (if that makes sense).
Goose - I'll PM you tonight
Out of interest - i'm not sure mine has the Euro switch on the headlights so for my trip to the Black Forest would people suggest:
a) realigning the lights manually using some tape on the wall
b) getting beam deflectors
c) doing nothing - the German police aren't going to be bothered

Better go alright - need to sell the thing when I get back which might be difficult if it has an E class taxi wedged in the grille
Driving abroad is really easy - as long you havent just stepped off a short ferry ride with your own vehicle (e.g. to France) - it can really mess with your noodle at first!
I find that when hopping into a LHD vehicle abroad it just comes naturally
