Just thought I would start a new thread to stop the equipment thread from getting overly cluttered.

I'm sorry but it isn't, it's a thread on a discussion forum where I think (I hope this is right) that people discuss things (I reckon that's where the name comes from). It's just that people on this particular thread are scared of any kind of discussion that doesn't agree they are fantastic for stoping smoking by smoking water and nicotine. For eggs, someone boasting about their 'cloud' and 'feeling sorry for the smokers'.
This is what frustrates me and this is where your argument falls down. You think people are smoking water and nicotine, then you clearly do not have any idea what goes into the juice that people use. Go and do some research and educate yourself.

My juice:
Flavorings
water
vegetable glycerin
nicotine

Ps its not smoking, try and get your head round that.
That's exactly the same as water and nicotine in almost any normal person's eyes. Flavouring and vegetable glycerin are surely irrelevant in terms of feeding the addiction?

Nicotine is the substance and water vapour is the delivery method.

So you're just smoking water and nicotine but with added flavours.

Ps, is smoking not the act of inhaling a substance that's been burned? I think you're perhaps being too hung up on the semantics of it as it's largely irrelevant.

Pps, would it not be 'healthier' to just smoke nicotine and water? I'd worry about the nebulous 'flavourings' you're inhaling and wouldn't be surprised to find they do as much damage as anything else. The vapour equivalent of E-numbers perhaps? Just a thought.

Personally, I see it as a slighter healthier (maybe?) form of smoking that doesn't look as cool but don't think you should stop if you enjoy it.
Just having nicotine and water would not work as it is too thin a liquid, it would just flood the wicks and coils. You need something with a higher Viscosity, hence the vegetable glycerine.

If as you say the smoking is the act of inhaling a substance that's been burned, surely you can not smoke water and nicotine. I don't believe you can burn water, you can heat it to a temperature where it turns into steam but that would probably be too hot to inhale.

I see your point about the flavourings but so far I do not believe it has been proved that there is anything bad in them. There could be but compared to what's in a cigarette ill take my chances.

It would be healthier not to inhale anything but air. As for being cool that's subjective, however I had a parent suggest that my kit looked cool and might encourage younger people to try e-cigs.

Young people are influenced by many 'bad' things that they perceive as 'cool'; alcohol, drugs, smoking, vaping, etc... Always have. Always will. As parents, all we can do is educate them on these things and lead by example.

But the fact is, of those things listed, vaping remains the least harmful in both the short and long term (so far as we know).

Why not just stop smoking altogether? Or are these more for the camp of "love smoking and want to keep smoking, but dont want to get ill"

I thought the glycerine was what made the smoke like vapour.

Aren't e-cigs just really daft looking solution for people that aren't cool enough to smoke, but equally lack the backbone to just man up and quit?

I can't, have tried many times. Cold turkey, patches, gum, inhalators, acupuncture, books etc. I just have not in the past managed it. On the e-cig I have not smoked for 86 days. I am dropping my nicotine level down and when I get to zero I can then decide whether to keep vaping (not smoking) or stop

Is it cool to smoke? Maybe in the days of James Dean when no one knew the health issues. I don't think people think smokers are cool anymore, just my opinion.

What would happen if your vape-stick thing broke today and no shops had them locally?

I always have a back up on me when im out and most newsagents these days sell disposable versions, that would get you home. At home I could start my own vape shop.

The pipes on the left take the little red batteries in the middle, they don't leave the house but I can vape like a sir at home. The white boxes in the middle have two black batteries in front of them, one has a green cleromiser on it to remind me its a mint flavour. That's usually what you will see people using walking around.

The silver looking tube in the middle takes the big red battery and has a 5ml juice reservoir so I don't have to keep topping it up or changing batteries. The rest is different flavours of juice in different strengths of nicotine.

Why on earth would you pretend smoke a pretend pipe and still maintain it's nothing to do with vaping?? It's absurd.

It's all actually quite fascinating - thanks for the detail.

I still feel to my mind that inhaling plus eat equals smoking but I don't suppose it really matters what anyone calls it.

I'd worry too much about the unknown effects I think but each to their own.

I smoke menthol/convertible fags and was at a party last weekend where a friend let me try their menthol juice filled vapeing device - it looked a bit like a sonic screwdriver from Dr Who. It was fantastic and is something that, when I get the time to look at ordering online, I will do!

Is it actually any cheaper?

Or is it like the shaving thread.

"Oh yeah, it's way cheaper, it's like, £3 for a pack of ten razor blades"

Yet I've spent hundreds of pounds on a couple of razors, a couple of brushes, a bowl, creams, soaps, etc.
Funny enough its very similar. Once you have your razors a couple of brushes, a bowl, creams, soaps, etc then your consumables are blades and soap. Just like vaping is coils and juice. However you get shinyitis and want to buy new bits of kit that you don't need or you want to try a new soap or new razor, like a vaper wants to try a new flavour or new bit of kit. Neither need it but it turns into a little hobby.

What's on the table in the picture above is about £200 of kit but when you see the banner below I have saved so much more than I have spent. I do however have a mod that cost me £100 on its own but it is hand made by one guy in wood and brass

Sorry wrong end of the stick it has everything to do with vaping. Its an electronic cigarette in the shape of a pipe. The battery goes into the bowl of the pipe and the juice is held in the reservoir on the stem. Its just a bit of fun, I always liked pipes. like I say it never leaves the house its just for me to use at home.

Not sure why people think it's water and nicotine, it's glycerine dissolved in propylene glycol, a fairly strong solvent and it's that that gives the hit in your throat.

A lot of juices contain a mix of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), usually a 50/50 mix but you can choose the ratio.

The PG gives the throat hit and the VG is more for the vapour. I don't like the throat hit so my juice is VG only.

Calling it a strong solvent might seem a bit scary to some people. It just means things dissolve into it easily like the nicotine and flavorings.

Do it. I switched from smoking to vaping months ago and haven't looked back. One tip - Spend a bit extra on good quality battery & clearomizer.

Guapo, you missed "looking like a mong" from the cons list.

Seriously, either smoke or quit. This vaping guff is just prolonging it / a not very good cop out.
