I had that once on a Daimler V8 250. The bearing wasn't running very smoothly and the outer part had starting spinning in the aluminium body causing a strange noise. I took it out, cleaned/oiled/greased it until it was running smoothly and then put it back in with a little piece of gasket paper to hold the bearing tight again. Worked a treat but sold the car soon afterwards anyway.
Also as I said in a different thread here,
I discovered my squeek was actually a worn fanbelt with polished pulleys, and not the bearing (after I had changed it of course !), so worth a check that your belt/pulleys don't look too shiny...
chances are though that it's the alternator front bearing. On many alternators, you can change it yourself if you're not frightened of DIY.
