Selling a car on eBay

My wife is selling her car on eBay, value about £8000.

Our main concern is how to accept payment.

Quite a lot of cash, but I have heard of people going with the buyer to the bank to do a transfer.

How does that work? Whose bank do you go to? How soon do you know the money is in your account?

Last couple of transactions I've done like that have been via online/ mobile app banking. Vendor doesn't release the car until the money is cleared in their account. The only awkwardness is it can take a couple of hours from the buyer sending the money for it to be received in the other account.

I've sold two cars on ebay, one a £11k Supra and the other a £500 micra.

Both paid cash, however I did request the buyers of the supra came to the bank with me to pay it into my account to ensure all was OK.

I recently sold my Hot Rod on Ebay to a guy from Hamburg, paid £500 into my paypal account within 12 hrs and picked up the car 6 days later along with a big bag of £50 notes - simple and very easy. He did sent me some references etc (he owned a chain of furniture shops and had a substaintial car collection)

I've gone to the bank with a buyer - He withdrew 5k in cash - I paid it in in cash at the same window at the same time - no cash was actually ever seen.
That was Natwest they were very helpful.
