AMG engine for next Vantage
Discussion
I bet it will be a version of the engine in the soon to be launched AMG GT. It's the only dry sumped V8 AMG makes (now that SLS production has ended).

Yes it is the same - posted a couple of months back.

This week's Autocar seems to claim that it will be going in the DB9 replacement that comes out in 2016. If that is correct would not see it going in the Vantage as well.
Not sure why not. AMG have long used the same engine in different states of tune (or with / without forced induction) across multiple models and body types, from C to S Class and everything in between.AFAIK the McLaren MP4/650S and P1 share the same engine but with different tune and hardware, so see no reason that a DB9 and Vantage couldn't do the same?

That as may be but they were talking about the engine giving out 510bhp being used in the 9 replacement and what I was referring to was using an engine with the same output in the 9 and the Vantage. Just do not think it would happen unless they uprated the engine going into the 9 which they seems to think Mercedes were unlikely to be prepared to do. But hey - who knows what is around the corner?AFAIK the McLaren MP4/650S and P1 share the same engine but with different tune and hardware, so see no reason that a DB9 and Vantage couldn't do the same?

But why not have the full blown V8 merc engine in DB9 and vantage rangetopper(v12v equivalent), possibly in marginally different states of tune, then use a less powerful version for entry level vantage ?

It would make sense for the flagship (vanquish) to have a v12 of one description or another, merc or different

I reckon that V8 will be in a host of AM's in NA, turboed and various states of tune

Exactly. But I don't think they will drop V12 altogether, be it a merc one or a development of the existing 'Aston' one
Interesting that the article in autocar suggests as some thought, that there will be very little difference between the ones supplied to Aston and the ones used in Merc's own models

Beside the AMG engine, drivetrain and gearbox they wont drop the V12 from Cologne
Right, the V12 will get a turbocharger.mikey k said:
IIRC the hydrogen Rapide Dr Bez showed off round the ring in had a twin turbo V12

If you look at photo ten on the racecar engineering link it look like the rapide has V12 vantage carbon fibre bonnet vents.

As I feared. So many here said "oh they won't do that." Absolutely appalling. Just a rechip and exhaust. The end of a great marque. I don't care how fast it is, this has no interest to me whatsoever. An Aston should have an Aston engine (to a similar degree that they do now). An Aston with an off-the-shelf engine is no more an Aston than a Ferrari would be with an off-the-shelf engine. A massive shame. I've bought my last new Aston.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
