Hi all,

I've had an S1, traded that in for a standard S2 which I've now had for 3 years, now I'm drooling over the 111R.

I haven't taken one out for a test drive yet, but I would like to hear your views on whether the step-up is worthwhile? On paper I'd say yes, but I'm open to opinion!

Tim.

Well I've only Owned one Lotus before my 111R, It was an S1 Elise which was great fun but not as fast or as much fun as my S2 111R, I'd say yes but I would wouldn't I, I'm sure your going to get load's of advice etc from the site. 111R's are just so bloody fast it's un-true nothing has even come near to passing me when I can be bothered, I've even blown away M3's. I took my mate out for a quick spin on Sunday and he just couldn't believe how quick it was (Silly speed's) his word's followed by a Scream. Yay !

NICE !

Actually that was another question I had!

What is the difference between an S2 Exige and the 111R?

Same engine, same straight line performance, no soft top, £2k more.

I don't do track days, so not really bothered by the slightly better handling and cornering. I admit it looks very cool, but I think getting the option of a hard top, soft top or no top depending on the weather conditions has to be an advantage, for me anyway.

BTW, thanks all for the advice - "silly speeds" and "awesome" sounds good to me, I thought the standard Elise wasn't bad! I'm going to book up a nice long test drive ASAP...

Difference is in the suspension and tyres. Its also a few mph slower due to the extra downforce created.

If you dont want to track it and like having the roof off its a no brainer, 111R every time.

I love the S2 Exige but with a few choice options you are looking at about £32K which is a lot.

Look best in Orange or Krypton Green but Topcats yellow one is very nice as well.

Now there's an idea........

Just been looking at their website actually. And only a £9k conversion.

What's the insurance like though?!

Err, reality check - there are plenty of faster cars, including M3's at "silly speeds"... maybe not everyone wants to race you?

Yes I do agree there are plenty of other faster car's but an M3 is not one of them, and not many for the price of a 111R either.

Well, the M3 does 0-100 in sub 12 (as opposed to 13 for the 111R), and goes well over 150mph. But that wasn't exactly the point anyway!

sure there are faster cars. But are they as much fun? fun is not proportional to HP.

Straight line speed is not much fun. It feels good to do at first but the buzz soon wears off as opposed to going fast in the corners and bends

I'm going to go on the first training day that Lotus organize next year, I don't think I'm getting the benefit of the cornering/handling, I bottle it well before the car's at it's limit weather's not that great so I'll be taking it easy for a good while yet, don't want any more mishap's Re: my earlier thread.

Right! That was my point. Straight line speed isn't something the Elise is good at, even with 200bhp.

Boggy go on a first Lotus day. Its far cheaper and its impossible to hit anything (other than the odd stray cone(just ask Steff )))so you can really find the cars limits and see what the car can do when Walshy gets behind the wheel.
