rd Mondeo mk3 st tdci shakes after installing 50mm springs
Discussion
Hi, I need some help, if anyone can help?
My mk3 2.2 st tdci mondeo has been lowered all round on 50mm lowering springs, and ever since has been shaking when driven. At first it was really bad when accelerating from 40-60mph, but I changed the drdriveshafts, had new tyres fitted, laser alignment and balanced, the shaking stopped, but was still there ever so slightly. Now after driving it normally for a few weeks the shaking has come back and is getting worse. It's not as bad as before, it starts shaking at about 20mph then stops after about 40mph. Parts I have changed, are the driveshafts, anti roll bar links, and all tyres have been replaced New and balanced with laser alignment. The shaking mainly comes from the front, then travels through to the back of the car! Any help or suggestions on how to get rid of this would be really appreciated. My local mechanic can't seem to figure it out (don't know why) and I've spent over £300 trying to solve the issue, so far with no luck! Feel like I'm going round in circles. Could it be subframes, or wish bones? Bottom arms, and shocks are fine- no play what so ever! Really stuck here....help!!!!

Sierras used to have this problem at 60-80mph, balancing the wheels would solve it for a time, but it would always return. The problem was front anti-roll bar mounts. Now I know the Mondeo is (in addition to being FWD) a massively different suspension architecture, but it does make me wonder if some bushes are degrading.
50mm lowering is quite a lot. Have you the adjustment for camber etc to bring it back in to geo ? I lowered my Focus (35mm front , 25 mm rear, as per Eibach spring kit), although not as low as you and found the tyres were wearing on the inside edge and I had to fit camber bolts to resolve it. From your point of view, I wonder if the lowering has affected the driveshafts. Can you swop the springs back to see if that stops it?
