Best spark plugs for my 5.5.?

I thought I'd ask hoping that someone could throw a little light on what is best?

I've been running NGK BP7ES and the car runs faultless, nice cam my idle, swift pick up etc.

I was therefor surprised when I pulled the plugs after about 4K miles and found a lot of hard crusty deposits on the centre electrodes and the side electrodes.

I'm thinking that I need a hotter plug?

Compression ratio was about 10:1 but I now have a set of heads on that have had a light skim.

Any informed ideas?

Thanks Richard. Does the 6 run a little hotter?

I don't need an R as I have Accell resister leads. I assume that they are available ?

I run iridium 6s - definitely more immediate on the throttle. They're the ones Chimpongas recommended when we were lads.....

I will check for the exact model number.

PS saw your comment about staying normally arspirated - just done a 150 mile TVR drive around the Peak District - I agree with everything you said.

I have just been reading dome old threads about plug choice and it seems that TVR FITTED THE 7 range plug but a lot have fitted the 6 range for cleaner running and less fouling.

My plugs defo showed fouling,(7 range) with the old stage 3 heads even though it has done several TDs and sprints in the last few thousand miles.

I am now running stage 4 heads, better porting and slightly bigger valves and a nads more CR.

Given the above, 6 or 7s?

I'm of a mind to try the 6 range.................any advance on that?

Hmmm... When I asked this question, I was told to stick with the standard plug due to the temps the 500 operates at?

I`d stick some 6`s in it Peter. Thats what i have although mine is only a baby 4.3

From what i can gather their aint many normally aspirated Rv8`s that need anything cooler than 6.

Just fitted BPR6ES in mine ,better idle and it seems more responsive . I took Jools advice ,take it for a proper blast and make sure you don`t get any clatter . The 6 temp will advance the engine slightly .

I've been running NGK BPR6EIS, the Iridium version of Daz's, for the last 15,000 miles in my V8D 5 litre, CR 10.0. No issues whatever, no comments from Mat on service other than "no need to replace these". They felt so much better right from the start.

I tested them at Bruntinghthorpe today ,crazy place ! and bloody dangerous .

6's and you're having it mapped, so then check them after a while..

From your description it could just be over fuelling ~ but you are realistically starting over afresh.....

I'll put in 6s and it is being mapped next week so that should be all bases covered!

Nice to see you today Daz, didn't get out again on track, still got a misfire. It was only dangerous when you where out on tack !!!

Don't bother with iridium, it's an rv8 after all, I get my plugs from halfords at just over a pound a piece ( for the range rover) I use 7's in the beast as 8's just wouldn't run right

I tried 9 and they just fouled fine in 8s

I used to have iridium plugs in my Lexus. Standard plug change interval was 60,000 miles. By using them you get a better spark for longer so waste less fuel.

Would you like me to whip out an iridium plug tomorrow am and post a photo? They have been in my car for over 15,000 miles
