I am about to fit a Pace dry sump kit in my R300 Superlight with K-Series engine (S3, 2002).

What is the best oil tank to use? I've looked at Pace's own round cylindrical design and some triangular designs by Brise.

Also, where is the best position to mount them?

Any photos would be particularly helpful.

Cheers.....

Theoretically the further back in the engine bay the better - many people shorten the passenger footwell to fit it in that space (not sure if this applies to the K-series though). If you were shortening the footwell I'd imagine you'd stick with the pace tank.

The other option and the thing caterham does is place a somewhat triangular tank in just at the engine side of the front crucifix chassis bars - Brise do a tank like this and Caterham do one (which may be made by Brise although this is unconfirmed - I think its a different design from the one Brise sell). This is theoretically easier to install but (also theoretically) is a sub-optimal shape, but only those with a beyond-healthy interest in aeration and cavitation theories would really know.

I have the Brise one, it is fine but I would spec it differently if I was doing it again as the inlets/outlets aren't in the best places, but I made it work. Its a lot cheaper than the Caterham tank but you have to really know what you are specifying otherwise you might find the plumbing difficult.

Thanks for the replies - very helpful indeed.

I don't fancy the idea of shortening the passenger footwell much, so maybe the Brise triangular style would be better.

Craig - some photos would be much appreciated.

I think mine is a Brise, it's mounted in the same place as the current R 300 race cars, so I would imagine its in the best place,

Cool - as I said, some photos would be great whenever you have a spare moment.

Cheers.

Hi, against advise and having a Jpe saddle tank I mounted my pace tank and the battery at the rear with a cooler mounted above the rack, tank act's as an extra cooler as it has ducted ambient air which the engine bay does not, never see oil temp above 130'. water never above 90' and that's with 275 bhp and 180 ft lbs at the hubs K20 honda.

Here you go, this is making around 240 hp no cooling issues at all, oil never goes above 90 water stays around the same,
No oil cooler but uses a laminator and big rad,

Hope this helps,,,

Craig.
