this might sound daft but is the geep rad just an escort one? my geep is a 1988 (i think) and was based on a 1.1 mk1 escort.

i was wondering if the radiator in mine might be the origanal?

it has now bust and i figure as i have a 1.6 in there i could do with putting something bigger in??

any advice

Hi Keith

If you are running a 1600 pinto I would fit a Capri or Cortina rad if it looks like it is still the original Escort one.

One of my old banger team mates still strips the odd Cortina to race and may have one if you get stuck.

Ive already given him a call , the only one he has at the moment is a rad out of 2.0 auto he will let me know before the weekend if he can get his hands on a 1600.

I am only down the road from you and have to pop through to Barnsley before Xmas so fingers crossed.

So long as the current hoses fit the radiator there will be no great problem fitting a 2 litre rad. At worst it will mean a smaller engine will run cooler.

if your sourcing a second hand rad dont rule out sierras granadas - infact any similar sized engined rad with right sized and placed outlets too big is safer as a properly working stat will allow engine to get upto temp although pinto is crap in that respect as exhaust is too close to stat also there are plenty of back street places that will re core your existing rad for 50-60 quid - can you see where its leaking? soldering it isnt too hard or get the add-it rad repair liquid it works as does the wynns version and it works quite permanently unless the whole rad is rotted out - i can recomend places but only in birmingham which is not of much use - sorry but same must exist locally to you i would assume maybe a few calls to yellow pages listed radiator firms or a cruise round small back street units - a GOOD RECON RAD WILL LAST 10 Years or so - oh dont ignore transits if looking in scrappys

thanks for all the help guys, got a radiator now, ended up buying new. i was told by a rad specialist that mine was a cortina one.

I managed to gor a 3 liter capri unit! it is same dimensions as mine but 2 core not 1.

it should last me a couple of years!!
