Which warranty?

Guys for a privately bought 997.1 S manual which warranty would you buy and why? Assume the car has between 50 and 60k miles and very well looked after.

Either Hartech's maintenance plan or get the owner to put a Porsche warranty on it then transfer it to you (you have to own the car at least 90 days before you can buy their warranty, but it can be transferred privately at any time).

Nothing else is anywhere near as good - it may look like it on paper and (if you're lucky) may even be OK for small claims, but big claims (like engine failure) is usually a world of pain, unlikely to result in the claim being paid.

They're different products/services. The Hartech plan requires a £650 major service and inspection before acceptance (and depending on what's found some things may need doing and other may be left but excluded from the plan e.g. weeping RMS seal), but for a fixed monthly fee provides an annual service (whichever is required, minor or major) and MOT, plus it covers the labour on all repairs and maintenance (with very very few exceptions), even things like brakes, clutch or indeed engine rebuilds. So, for what you pay out you always get something for your money, but for things that would be covered by an OPC warranty you will have to pay for the parts (but I think just £1000-£2000 covers most engine rebuilds, but do check).

An OPC warranty also requires a check over and rectification of everything they find (including weeping RMS for example) plus the car has to be completely factory standard (e.g. No Bluetooth kit or non N-rated tyres, no Tracker except the Porsche one). If it doesn't have an up to date main dealer history it'll need a major service too. If you do need to use it the warranty should cover all costs for any breakdowns.

It might be max 10 years old/125,000 miles at inception/renewal, but I think if it's over 9 years old you can then only buy a 1 year policy not 2 years. Mileage isn't limited though, so you could put a warranty on a car with 124,999 miles and drive it as far as you want whilst there's still time on the warranty.

So I next year I buy a car that's registered in 2006 then I can only get the 12 month option and not extend it. So even though a car that's 9 years old can be placed under cover the Max time permitted under the Porsche scheme is 12 months

I looked at all the options and went down the Warranty Direct route for my 997.1.

I know 3rd party warranties aren't perfect but it seemed to offer the best level of cover for a reasonable price.
