Hi Folks I have a cambridge audio 650 blu-ray machine, bought largely for it's out-the-box multi-regional capability and available BRD mod-hack although i've never needed to do the latter.

Went to pop on a region 1 only DVD last night... only to get insistent "wrong region"

Looking around it seems this has been online "updated" to be not multi-regional? WTF?

Any tips on how I can resolve this, besides of course to stop paying hundreds for upmarket equipment and many thousands for all my hundreds of DVD's/BRD's and just download everything instead?

Yes, thanks film industry, ruin my night for being stupid enough to try to pay you for you wares, as if the several unplayable DVD's/BRD's aren't insult enough.

fuming.

I know I am heading off on a tangent, but nonsense like the region system only encourages piracy

With a multi region player never let it receive software updates which will over write the existing commands. Where did you buy it, they may well have a disc or or remote hack that will return your system to its multi region status.

Remember to set the menu to refuse online updates.

Ring whoever you bought it from, the mod might need reapplying.

Richer sounds so I'm not optimistic but I'll try. no actual mods as it stands, was built and sold as multi-regional for DVD with a multi zonal BRD mod avaliable, is around I think 5 years old

Well it's true that if I'd just downloaded/bought a pirate copy like most of my mates seem to do I wouldn't be having this issue would I... so who's the mug?

Perhaps they used this kit - http://bluraychip.dk/product.php?id_product=13 - might be worth trying the instructions?
