Stupidly low milages in car ads...............why?

Searching on the other site for a cheap run about for daughter, just passed test. Obviously bduget is low, so high mileage cars come up. But I'm mighty pissed off with idiots, including dealers, who advertise cars with 6 figure mileages, with the last 3 digits missing. Totally screws up search parameters. For what purpose do they do this ?

As per ILMs post - so their ads come up first as their cars are usually cheaper because they have starship miles.Edited by robinessex on Sunday 10th August 17:55
Extremely annoying. I dont know why autotrader just make you put in the numeric part with the ",000" defaulted, so you'd put in 73 for 73,000 to appear.

A better question would have been "What do they achieve?". I'm usually looking for a specific model, usually a very specific version of that model. Therefore such shenanigans are an utter waste of their time, as far as I'm concerned. Particularly as I'm bloody-minded enough to go out of my way to ignore their website and stocklist out of spite for having caused me minor inconvenience.

Car dealers in the UK spend thousands replacing 0 keys every year.
Next time you're at a dealers have a look past the stained Top Gear mug and well thumbed copy of Jugs and you'll see the 0s on the keyboard in a sad state of repair because they use them every time they enter mileages onto Autotrader.
All they're doing by knocking off the 0s is saving the cost of replacing the keys which can then be passed onto you the consumer.
And there's an environmental saving too as all those keys would've gone to landfill and got jammed in a hedgehogs windpipe.
Stop being so demanding & think of the hedgehogs.
