Porsche cars I should have bought (and kept)
Discussion
OK
Bought my 9934s 14 years ago in preference to a 10,000 mile 993RS - now £250,000
Almost bought an 18000 mile 993 Turbo with the added power pack for £60,000 three years ago - now £200,000
Considered a one owner late model 928 GTS with 22,000 miles for £22500 - now £40,000
Discussed buying a 1989 Carrera in red with 18,000 miles for £27500 - now £45,000
But I still have my 9934s and a new 911 GT3 so can't really complain but crazy money for cars now. Crazy
Anyone else almost bought cars that are now mega money

Not a Porsche, but was very close to getting a Dino in the '90s when they were cheap. Now £250k!
£425k is the only one with a price on PH :-)Could have bought a 60k mile 968 CS for £8k a few years back.
Could have bought a 2007 997 GT3 for £50k a year or 2 ago.
Stuff I wouldn't have bought but might if I had storage - 355 for £30k, F40 for £150k, 993 C2S for £22k, 930 Turbo for £20k, Honda NSX for £10k, Mercedes 280 SL Pagoda for £20k
Oh well ;-)
The blue 964 x88 3.6 that just sold for £150k+ . Could have had it off a mate for £30k several years ago but didn't like the colour .....
Edited as didn't see Porsche In title .
5000m 968 Clubsport for £12k , bought a cav 4x4 turbo instead. What was I thinking .

964RS with 22K miles on the clock for £23K. Talked myself out of it and 'saved' £7K on a standard C2.
911 5 speed 930 Turbo with minor rust .............. for 15K. Turned her down
1972-3 911E, original RHD with the oil filler on the drivers side, again 15K, 15 bloody thousand pounds. It was offered on a bloody plate, matching everything and I turned it down, nothing wrong other than blistered paint.
Loads of others, 1973 911S LHD for 10K in need of cosmetic work? Nope didnt buy that one either, I bought a motorbike instead, then promptly fell off it.
Oh well, this is me. Oh and I owned three of them over the years and the MK1, I sold for a song.

EDIT. Didn't see Porsche in the title either

Another one here; I had the chance to buy a black lhd 964RS with a fresh engine for £25k and decided to stick with my Maritime blue non-sunroof sports seated 968CS instead.
And then I sold the 968 and bought a brand new Cayman just as the economy tanked in 2008.
On the upside, I did buy a 1973 2.4T three years ago, just before the market went potty.
SS7

Had a chance on the following;
2x 964RS at £23k and £19k but felt I couldn't live with LHD
993 Turbo one of the last with 430bhp factory upgrade at £46k. May have been a godsend as the same car was up for sale a couple of years later at about the same asking price but had new engine at £25k!!
BMW E30 M3 Evo 1 at about £5K
BMW E30 M3 Evo 3 at £15k.
Oh well, can't miss anything you've never had.

2.7 RS....made an enquiry to Autofarm in 2002. They had one on SOR but they said the owner wanted too much for it at £60k. They told me to be patient...
A bloke who is now a colleague actually did buy one around that time for £50k and sold it a few years later for £80k.
Given his reaction every time he sees RS prices I think I know what's worse....

A fellow Piston Header offered me his silver RHD 911GT (993GT2) for £150K as a throw-away statement when I was buying a second hand 993 RSR exhaust off him!
I also admit to not buying a Midnight Blue RHD 993RS for £60K and bought a 996GT3 for £10K less...
993 GT2 back in 2003-4 for £65k.I also admit to not buying a Midnight Blue RHD 993RS for £60K and bought a 996GT3 for £10K less...

Almost bought a 35k mile Artic 993 Turbo for £43,000, now worth £110,000
Almost bought a <20k mile 360CS for £90k, now worth £170,000
Don't regret it though, had many many thousands of miles in the 2 cars i've got instead including 5 roadtrips on some of the best routes on the globe. Many great memories and experiences and both cars I got instead are, for my tastes, vastly superior to drive to the two above and they aint never gonna leave my side. The extra money that I didnt spend on the CS (over my GT3) bought me another house as well which has appreciated by a fair bit more than the CS has so quids in. Cars are for driving, end of.

I was in the local OPC at 10am on the day when they were taking deposits for the 4.0 RS - opened at 9am for deposits then closed 2 hours later at 11am.
Was asked to get my money out, thought about it for a few minutes, then decided I was happy enough with my std GT3.
They never managed to get a single deposit before the cut off time.
I console myself with the thought I probably wouldn't have got one anyway as I was never on the letter of intent list.

Deposit taken on my gorgeous 996 Mk1 CS in guards red. Probably getting collected this weekend.
Fed up is an understatement, but that's life.
Cars sold :
964 C2 manual coupe - £12k
964 Turbo - £25k
Money or profit was never the reason I got into cars and it just starts to get on my tits after a while. It's always there in the background. I'm getting something high miles and well maintained next and just driving the bloody thing.
