Sounds like there's a few people here with technical know how...

I'm about to upgrade to a new PC as my current one seems to be running backwards half of the time, and crashing a dozen times a day.

However, I want to move all my data to the new PC - how do I do this? The old one has no CD-writer and I tried a memory key, but apparently there are some issues using these with W98 (I couldn't get it to work anyway).

Also, I want to transfer addresses etc from Outlook express and also my Internet "Favourites" - which files do I need to copy over for this? And are there any other things that I've probably forgotten that I'll be slightly miffed at having forgotten about that people can remind me of from their own experiences???

TIA
Jem

Network the two together and if you are upgrading to XP, pop the CD in and run the migration wizard to transfer all your files and settings into a directory on the old PC.

Copy the files from the new directory over the wire to the new machine and then run the migration wizard again on the new machine, pointing it to the files you just copied from the old machine.

Job done!

I'm not even going to ask how you network the two of them together - think I'll get a mate a few beers and let him handle it (not in that order though...

Not all new systems will recognise older disks but Podie's suggestion is worth a try before you get into networks if you haven't done them before.

True, but run the files and settings transfer wizard first with the disk in the donor PC. It'll prepare everything for your profile on your new machine.

Profiles, biggest pain in the ass..... Ever
