Hi everyone,

My car is finally finished and i want to take it on track but i'm not sure if it will exceed noise limits.

Does anyone have a decibel meter i can borrow, needs to read under 100db for the tracks i want to do.

TIA

I've no idea how accurate they are but you know you can get an app for your phone?

yeah, i've had a look but nearly all of them say they're not accurate enough to be used as a tool and that a lot of smart phone microphones only go up to 100db which isn't any good. i'll give it a go tomorrow nonetheless.

never had a problem with the iphone app only going too 100 dB and it is within 1 dB of a calibrated type 2 meter so as long as you use the correct methodology it should be ok.

Think he might take you up on that as he has to go to Portsmouth today anyway. Cheers Steve.

i tested 4 cars at Castle Combe, with the "Decibel 10th" app, straight after noise testing and they all came out spot on, iirc a metre away and slightly off centre of the exhaust.

Andy
Nip over to Goodwood Saturday morning and get it done there. The marshalls will be testing all the track cars during scrutineering.(early AM) You can ask one of them to measure the car, all tracks use the same device so the result you get should be relevant to most UK tracks.

Use an app and hold the revs at 2/3rd to try and replicate the test
