Re-registering an exported car (moving from Ireland) help!

Hi all

Just looking for some general advice on the following:

I imported a 2003 Alfa 156 I bought privately in 2012 from the
Uk to Ireland.

The car was first registered in the Uk and had uk plates etc as it
was in private use. I then brought it to Dublin and registered the car there
where it's been in daily use since.

Long story short, I'm moving back to London in a few months and want to bring the car with me.

My irish insurance policy doesn't expire until spring of 2015.

I'm just wondering is it a straightforward process with the dvla to re-register it and what is the
process? Do I need to MOT her first or how should I get the ball rolling when I drive off the ferry?

Also would I be safe enough driving it on Irish plates until I get it sorted once the Irish insurance company
says I'm covered to drive it in the uk (I believe most do for up to 60 days max or something) and with an in date
Irish tax disc?

Was just looking for advice as I was contemplating selling the car and am trying to decide what the best course of action
is.

Depends if the car was ever declared exported from the UK.

If it was then I suspect it will straightforward to get it reregistered at DVLA where it will probably get it's original identity back.

Of you get an MOT make sure the VIN number is put on.

Get it on UK plates before selling it...

You need to take it for an MOT, and get a UK insurance policy on it.

If you're a UK resident, then you can't drive it at all. If you're non-resident, then you can drive it for up to six months. Your call as to whether you're here temporarily or residing here...
