The problem with kitcars at the lower end of the market is that owners are often over-optimistic of their value.
Also. I suspect such vehicles are no better dynamically than a run-of-the-mill MX5.
Finally. If you have some brave pills and a sense of humour, see how much leaf strung Land Rover you can get for your 2.5 large.

I get the love for fast Volvo wagons, in fact I own one, but you could never call it fun. The power makes what would otherwise be a deathly dull (if competent) car a bit of a straight line laugh but I couldn't ever recommend one as a 2nd dedicated "fun" car. I've seen them heavily modified going around tracks but you're always working against the original design brief of the car in trying to have fun driving it.mk2 golf gti, should get a solid 8v at that price however prices are going up and will continue to do so, make sure the chassis is solid as they are fairly easy to work on and mechanical parts are not too expensive.
MX5 being a bit of a default choice on PH, from what I've heard the earlier cars are better. I've been lucky enough to drive some pretty new ones but it wasn't for me

On the other hand, I've also had an 850x70, and I thought the chassis was that bit sharper, weight lighter and suspension that bit stiffer that, if you strip one out (even if you don't actually), they can be a bit of a weapon on-track. If you're prepared to go the extra mile and set it up with Öhlins all round, a bit of strengthening of engine bay components and more boost, you've got yourself a seriously fast track car.
Might be just a wee bit influenced by living where I do mind... and I'd still rather have a Saab!
