Looking to change my transmission oil. What MTF Oil do I need? I read that the AM now recommend Castrol BOT270a transmission oil and its only available from the dealers.

What can I use instead. Is something like this OK?

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-739-castrol-syntrans-m...

Do I need to add some Diff Additives as well?

thanks

There are alternatives listed in the US workshop manual:

http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/aston-martin/31...

The Shell 75/90 transaxle oil listed is fine, however (like the poster) I can't find it in 1-litre bottles (nut I haven't looked too far.

Basically, a good 75/90 oil, designed for LSDs (limited slip diff)should be fine.
Like engine oil, it's really better to use and equivalent and change more often, than to stick rigidly to using only the 'partner' oil every 30,000 (?) miles.

There is a post, including pics, of a V8V transaxle oil change here:

He says in the post that AM recommended Castrol Syntrax, but I haven't seen a statement to that effect.
I can't imagine it's really any different to the 270a.

Additives are not really a good idea with LSDs - unless you want to quieten a noisy diff.

If you really want to stick with the BOT 270a, I have some and MAY have a spare 4l.

Cant comment on oil spec other than when I changed to the latest Castrol recommendation 2 services ago, the gearbox was noticeably smoother and much better from cold

I got the AM dealer to change the gearbox oil on my V8VR Sportshift a few weeks ago.
The invoice shows Shell Transaxle 75w90 High Performance Synthetic

thanks for all the useful information.

What I still don't get is can I just use a normal fully synthetic gearbox GL-4 oil or do I need to use gear oil with 'Limited Slip Diff additives'?

thanks

Hello Simon, I could do with 4 litres of BOT 270A, do you still have it?

Hi Simon, I sent you a PM with my address (not sure if you received it). I read somewhere the V8 Vantage needed 4.5L for a gearbox oil change, so my question would be, do you have 5 x 1L bottles?

Regards, Roger
