'Even hotter' Toyota FT-1 for Gran Turismo
UPDATE: Look! Racing version joined by another road car. It's quite something

What's new? The pain is the most obvious change, the vivid red swapped for a more subtle yet really classy graphite. Combined with the tan leather inside it looks every inch the modern GT sports car.
In fact the whole interior has been given a nudge upmarket. The leather sits where carbon was and the displays appear less futuristic too. Apparently the inspiration comes from modern superhero films (really) where 'high tech performance materials' are used for costumes rather than the 'bright tights and garish colours'. Batman's new wheels? Doesn't sound ridiculous.
Selene Lee was involved in the latest design of the FT-1 and even references the "feeling of flow" at the wheel: "From the start of the FT-1 project, we wanted the driver to have a feeling of flow while at the wheel - to be able to focus on the road and nothing else. In the colour studio we help create the atmosphere of the vehicle, and our aim was to ensure everything supported the driver through efficient choices".
This FT-1 will be available on GT in September too. Now when's the production car debut?

Come on Toyota, stop teasing now. Not content with bringing the fabulous FT-1 concept to Detroit and only making it available on Gran Turismo, there's now a track focused version. Only available on Gran Turismo.
It's officially Toyota's Vision Gran Turismo concept, as we've seen already from VW, Mercedes, Aston and others. It looks excellent and surely if interest is maintained then perhaps a real one becomes more feasible. We can hope. As it's not production spec the tweaks are rather vague but bigger arches for wider tyres, additional cooling and a whacking great spoiler for downforce are all encouraging. And have you ever come across such a rear diffuser?
The Vision Gran Turismo FT-1 has again been styled by Toyota's CALTY studio who have another funky design buzzword for the FT-1's new aero bits: 'function sculpting'. It is intended to 'look and feel the way it performs to create the sensation of a real race'. Right. If you have GT6 the FT-1 Vision will be available from next month.
I enjoy PH for the articles on real cars and driving, not really my thing to be the lonely teenager type, confined to a bedroom with fingers flashing across a games console handset while spending all night gazing at a monitor - but each to their own.
This isn't the first time a concept has been released on a game first and Toyota are certainly not the first to do this.
In GT6 alone Mercedes, VW, Nissan, Aston Martin, BMW and Mitsubishi have all designed concepts specifically for the game.
It's enormously cheaper than producing real life models and allows them the same feedback, if not more. I'm not saying that GT6 is a perfect simulator, but it gives you a good basis for comparison. I definitely prefer being able to try out these concepts instead of simply looking at the "shiny".
As far as news worthiness is concerned. Why not?
It is car related and definitely something that applies to the majority of this site's readers.
Personally, i think that PH is only scratching the surface.

Simulators / games are only getting better and more realistic. If they're good enough for the F1 boys...
I was convinvced that it was only nerdy teenagers that played video games and only old men that didn’t. Are you trying to suggest there may be some middle ground? Could it be possible that there is a large overlap in the demographics of car enthusiasts and those that enjoy driving simulators?
Well that’s my mind blown

Just taking a random news story on PH for example, I have very little interest in another VAG hot hatch, but I still can't say I'm angered by PH reporting on it, as I realise there are people who are interested.
I for one developed my interest in cars through Gran Turismo and most of the cars I have bought in real life have been because of Gran Turismo. I realise I may be a more extreme example of the influence of computer games on real world purchases but things like Vision Gran Turismo are becoming very relevant in the modern world.
My view is this is news because a lot of these companies are using these digital cars as design statements for the future models.
This can only be a good thing because usually these designs get kept under lock and key or only get rolled out at motor shows.
