Porsche 911 country build - Import or not?

Hi,

I have a 911 (997) turbo that I purchase last year, i am looking to sell the car and have a potential buyer. The buyer did some checks and said that the car is an import rather than a UK car, they informed me that it was a Cypurs (C98) car with a UK build. I was not aware of this.

Does anyone know how i can find out if it was a UK car? I have seen that there are different country codes but not sure how to check this out. I did a HPI check on my car and it said the car has never been exported.

Call Porsche GB in Reading, they'll let you have a certificate with the build details for a few quid.

'UK' or 'non import' Porsches have the coding C16 which will be specified on the service book at some point on the first pages usually with the vin number.

I think i have a duplicate service book so there is no stamp, just the date of registration and VIN number on the vehicle identification page.

A C98 car needn't ever have been used anywhere other than the UK - the Cyprus dealer can place a "factory collection" order, or indeed UK non-official dealers could buy and import new cars through/from Cyprus dealers. I think Autobahn used to do this a lot, and consequently they knew exactly how to specify the cars such that they were identical to a UK supplied car (i.e. the alarm system was to Thatcham Cat 1 etc).

So, once the car's a few years old it should make little difference to the educated buyer (provided the car was spec'd right in the first place).
