Evening all,

Had two new front tyres put on the car earlier, just had a cursory look at them later on in the day, and one of them doesn't appear to be fitted correctly.

I was under the impression that tyres were either on, or not. So I cannot work out what has occurred here?

anyone have any idea? top photo looks correct, bottom photo is the troubling one

yours, confused of Essex

Has the car got staggered width wheels?

Most rims have the J size on the back Rim Diameter x width ie 18 x 8J

Yes, I'm thinking front tyre on a wider rear alloy.

225 tyre on a 9" wide wheel = quite a lot of stretch, quite possibly beyond the manufacturer specifications. You really want a 255 or 265 tyre.
That is assuming they're actually the 9" MV4 rather than the 8". If they're 19x8" MV4s it beats me because a 225 should be spot on.

This is the standard tyre size, and standard P zero

The photos are both front wheels, and both the same size tyre!!

To the person who suggested is there a non genuine wheel at play, I know the car has a non genuine wheel on it somewhere, but I am pretty sure it's a rear. Even so, I never noticed the difference on the last summer or winter tyres?

I'm glad it's not just me who is baffled by it!

It is a puzzle -- but do check the J (or JJ) size side to side.

So there is a back wheel on the front?

Seems like quite a lot of stretch on both of them to me.

Guys these are the standard size, on the standard front wheels, standard manufacturer.

The rear wheels have not been touched in having the two front tyres switched.

The tyres aren't incorrectly fitted, that isn't possible. They are quite stretched though, I have noticed that BMW seem to be supplied with slight stretch on the tyres particularly the fronts presumably to provide a direct and immediate feel to the steering. Thos Pirellis look quite extreme but the effect is being exacerbated by the fact the rim flange protectors are nowhere near the rim.

I expect Continental tyres would've been OEM fitment so they may not have looked so alarming.

You've nothing to worry about though, other than the fact that your rim protectors are useless!

How on earth is that safe, the tyre can be moved to each side of the rim.

Unless there has been a total screwup like they have given you someone else's rear wheel

I think sir needs to break out the tape measure

OP, are the tyre sizes the same on both fronts and both backs? (They will be different front to back). If they are, crack out the tape measure and measure the width of the wheel.

The J has nothing to do with the size, it refers to the shape of the bead.

I'm speculating a rear wheel has been fitted to the front. Rear should have a 255 on it. 225 would be too narrow.

Something definitely fishy there.
