997tt to 981S (or GTS)... am I going mad?
Discussion
OK, so I've had a 997.1 tt for 2 years now, it's a late 2008 car, perfect in every way and damn quick. I really like it. But something just happened.
I took a ride in a 981S with Sport Plus and PDK yesterday, and I didn't just like it... I loved it! I loved the balance of the car, the way it felt like playing gran turismo with the paddle shifters as I drove through the twisties, and the blip of the sports exhaust on downshift. It felt quick and tight too... OK, not as quick as the 997tt, but quick enough. And with the roof down and the sports exhaust, the noise was wonderful.
I never thought of changing the 997tt until now, and it feels insane to be thinking of going back to a Boxster, but I just loved driving the 981S and I am REALLY tempted by the look/sound/idea of the GTS.
Am I going nuts? Has anyone else felt like this?

If I did not need the extra seats or did frequent trips up north I would still be driving a boxster.
Power is corrupting, you don't really need it but once you have been given it you can become single minded about it but now and again you get the revelation that life without a sub 3 second car is doable.

Not going nuts at all. Pleased you have finally got there. I was a dyed in the wool turbo fan but came to realise all that relentless speed and huge waves of torque was just a bit dull in the end. It was a 991 with PSE that did it for me and now for me the noise a car makes trumps speed and power every time. Add the fact that a lot of cars are a better drive than the turbos and it's a no brainier. Each to their own in the end.....I took a ride in a 981S with Sport Plus and PDK yesterday, and I didn't just like it... I loved it! No, not atall.
My 997.1 turbo has been in a couple of times for warranty work over the past couple of months, first they gave me had a 981S PDK with all the toys for almost a week and I didnt want to give it back. It lacked the feel of the 911..and of the course the immense grip and power...but sports + / manual mode on the right roads...wow! Next, similar spec non S, again great balance etc but for me felt down on power...though responded well to hard reving.
Dare I say it all the car youll ever need...
A 911 would be a very hard thing for me to walk away from but I'm seriously tempted, though Id defo take the S..more than likely manual and give a Cayman a good try as well.

I know.... I felt odd writing that as I don't play GT that often, but I was trying to find a way to explain the difference between having to do loads of work with the clutch and gearstick (to keep the turbo spooled up and in the right rev range) and just blipping away at the paddles, and I definitely think the latter made me a bit quicker and a bit more aggressive with the throttle too.
Thanks for all the responses, glad to know I'm not going mad after all. I might just have to explore this further.

After listening to the GTS in this video, even I wanted to trade in my Turbo S Cab for a Boxster GTS !

As said, I'm probably totally corrupted by the power now, so guess there's no going back.

I have just ordered a boxster gts , my 997 GT3 will be leaving .
I've had the gt3 for 5 years , fancied a change and wanted something softer for day to day . I've had a few new Porsches and the new boxster is a bit of a bargain .
Same route and same reasons as me, 7 GT3 to 981 CS PDK after 3 years. Only regret is the lack of depreciation.I've had the gt3 for 5 years , fancied a change and wanted something softer for day to day . I've had a few new Porsches and the new boxster is a bit of a bargain .
